POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Camp Store/Canteen Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Camp Grant Walker Store during the 2026 summer camp. This individual will oversee inventory management merchandise sales and staff assigned to the store. The Camp Store/Canteen Manager plays a key role in ensuring efficient store operations financial accuracy and a positive experience for campers. The role requires close collaboration with camp leadership to meet the needs of participants and maintain operational standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Store Operations & Customer Service
Oversee the daily operations during assigned hours (Monday Thursday) during camp. Additional days/hours will be needed prior to summer camp operations in preparation for summer camp.
Manage store hours which vary between afternoon and evenings.
Provide customer service to campers counselors and adults by assisting with merchandise selection and purchase transactions.
Ensure an organized and visually appealing display of merchandise.
Manage online store and purchases.
Perform responsibilities necessary for shipment of merchandise from online store.
Assist with social media for 4-H Online Store.
Work closely with Administrative Coordinator to ensure accurate inventory reports re-order necessary stock and maintain organized retail operations.
Inventory Management
Monitor and maintain accurate inventory
Conduct regular inventory audits to track merchandise quantities and avoid shortages or overstock.
Assist with stock replenishment and merchandising.
Administrative Tasks:
Assist in generating weekly sales and camper report balances for camp leadership.
Work closely with Director and Administrative Coordinator to ensure compliance with the LSU AgCenter and 4-H Youth Development policies.
Team Supervision
Oversee camp staff assigned to Camp Store and Canteen providing clear instructions for daily task delegation and serve as lead for training camp staff for Camp Store and Canteen operations during summer staff training.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as a team.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Work collaboratively with adults and volunteers.
Must complete an employee background check and be approved by the LSU AgCenter Human Resource Management Unit.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Ability to work as a team.
Preference given to applicants who:
Have 1-2 years experience working in a retail or customer service-related setting
Attended college for two years and are at a Junior or Senior credit hour level.
Prior experience working with or supervising children.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Long periods of standing sitting carrying stooping and stretching. Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to complete tasks are required. The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more. Customer service ability in appropriately interacting with adults and youth.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with experience. Housing options are available on site upon request availability and job responsibility. Meals and snacks are also available.
DATE AVAILABLE: Camp session is May 25-July 30 2026. LOST Camp takes place July 30-August 2 2026. Required training period is May 14-22 2026. Camp will not be in session the week of June.
