Job Summary

Position Summary

The Director of Residence Life and Housing oversees the supervision and development of Residence Life staff (RDs ARDs and RAs) and all aspects of Student Housing while promoting the values and policies of the institution. The Director of Residence Life and Housing sets and implements the vision and mission of Residence Life and has an integral part in the formation of students and the student experience in and outside of the classroom.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the operational administrative and programmatic functions of Residence Life and Housing. The Director gives leadership and vision to the department within the context of the Mission & Vision of FPU and the Fresno Pacific Idea.
  • Work with the Assistant Dean of Student Development VP of Student Development and other campus leaders to develop strategic planning vision setting goal setting assessment and evaluation of the Residence Life program.
  • Communicate institutional policies procedures and regulations specifically those that are outlined in the Employee Student and Residence Life handbooks and encourage staff and students to share responsibility for upholding them.
  • Intervene and implement University policy and procedures in crisis situations and contact additional professional staff and Campus Safety as necessary.
  • Be aware of student matters build relationships and be available to those who have concerns or extraordinary needs.
  • Recruit hire supervise train and evaluate the Residence Directors and para-professional staff.
    1. Provide leadership and guidance to manage complex student issues such as but not limited to roommate conflict health and mental health wellness disabilities accommodations academic success general life struggles etc.
    2. Provide administrative support to the Residence Directors for items such as but not limited to budget credit card reconciliation living area funds report writing housing paperwork etc.
    3. Provide staff development to maintain a professional knowledgeable and well-balanced team based on student development theory and best practices.
    4. Provide care and emotional support for the Residence directors if needed or requested.
  • Provide leadership development implementation and evaluation of the Residence Life Student Staff (RLSS) program including recruitment marketing selection orientation training/retreats evaluation leadership/spiritual development interpersonal competencies enrichment and recognition.
  • Provide budget management for Residence Life including budget development tracking and strategic planning.
  • Facilitate all aspects of a strong and robust housing program such as but not limited to:
    1. Coordinate all aspects of housing processes:
      • Manage housing petitions policy and process for students under 21 who want to live off campus.
      • Manage housing placements for new and returning students.
  • Coordinate and manage housing check-in/out processes.
    • Track keys and manage key replacement policy.
    • Manage housing deposits charges/fines refunds or forfeits and related communication to Student Financial Services.
    • Manage early/late arrivals or early/late departures for approved student athletes leaders student workers.
    • Manage all housing related aspects for summer student housing and conference including hiring training and supervision of summer student staff.
    • Facilitate the assignment of meal plans and any meal plan petitions with Food Services.
    • Coordinate with Facilities on housing assessments improvements damage & repairs etc.
    • Maintain all data and record keeping processes including Residence Colleague TouchNet etc. for housing and meal plans and historical data).
    • Address concerns/issues with students regarding housing.
    • Maintain housing reports for administrative needs and strategic planning.
    1. Manage Residence Life staff meetings and attend Student Life staff meetings.
    2. Develop and maintain handbooks Residence Life websites continuity of operations plans and assessment projects for professional/para-professional and student staff.
    3. Serve on the Emergency Management Team.
    4. Work under the supervision of the Chief Conduct Officer to manage low level conduct violations and to function as the Community Justice Conference (CJC) facilitator.
      1. Provide initial intake meetings scheduling meetings facilitating CJCs implementing corrective measures managing accountability and follow-up meetings to completion.
      2. Documentation and tracking in Advocate of all conduct matters including meetings notices emails corrective measures etc.
    5. Provide emergency on-call support for Residence Directors On-Call.
    6. Participate in the weekend emergency on-call rotation with other Residence Directors.
    7. Develop and maintain working relationships with other university departments (Admissions Business Registrar Offices Facilities Management Campus Safety and Student Financial Service). Provide support in communicating the needs of these offices with residential students and collaboration with Admissions recruiting events.
    8. Have a working knowledge of campus policies/resources and community agencies for referrals of emotional or health issues that may arise.
    9. Be available for all major campus events such as Thanksgiving banquet MCC Sale housing opening/closing new student orientation etc. and organize any responsibilities that Residence Life may have in these events.
    10. Be willing serve on the Willow Gardens Homeowners Association Board.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelors degree in student affairs higher education or a related field
    • Must be able to handle and work with interruptions during normal office hours
    • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including Word and Excel
    • Demonstrated organizational capabilities detail orientation and the ability to handle multiple priorities and complex projects simultaneously
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to interact with people in a warm and professional manner
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respond to changes in a timely manner

    Preferred:
    • Masters degree in student development/affairs higher education or a related field
    • Experience in higher education at a university setting

    Environmental Conditions:
    • Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise dust fumes vibrations and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
    • Frequent computer use at a workstation up to eight hours per day.
    • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
    • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
    • Public contact position requiring professional apparel personal hygiene and grooming.

    Physical Demands:
    • This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
    • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc. operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
    • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.

    University Information

    $70304 to $85000 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Fresno Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications experience and internal addition to compensation FPU offers a competitive benefits package.
