The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) as part of the Department of Climate Change Energy the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Officer.

About the role

The Senior Project Officer (PLC) plays a key role in developing delivering and evaluating the Biodiversity Conservation Trusts private land conservation programs. The role leads and supports complex multidisciplinary projects provides highlevel technical and operational policy advice and undertakes analysis to inform costeffective investment in landscapescale biodiversity outcomes for NSW.

Working closely with regional staff internal stakeholders and external partners the position contributes to program design oversees conservation tenders prepares highquality reports for executive and board audiences and represents the organisation across various forums. The role requires strong analytical capability the ability to manage competing priorities and confidence in problem solving within a fastpaced collaborative environment.

The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a collaborative fastpaced environment is comfortable interpreting and communicating complex information and is committed to delivering highquality outcomes that support BCTs strategic priorities. Were looking for someone who can demonstrate:
Proven experience in conservation land management programs ideally including conservation tenders
Strong analytical skills including the ability to work with large datasets and apply statistical or technical analysis
Confidence providing highlevel policy program and technical advice to internal stakeholders
Strong communication skills and the ability to represent BCT in internal and external forums
Ability to manage competing priorities collaborate with dispersed teams and navigate periods of high workload
Understanding of probity equity and governance requirements in program design and delivery

This role is ideal for someone seeking to deepen their impact within the organisation and contribute to shaping BCTs private land conservation outcomes at a strategic level.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in development and delivery of conservation land management programs with experience in conservation tenders highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience managing and analysing large datasets including proficiency with spreadsheet and/or database software and statistical analysis software.
  • Demonstrated ability to research technical and scientific information to develop conservation land management policy and programs
  • Understanding of the importance of equity and probity considerations in the design and delivery of private land conservation programs.
  • Understanding of different land tenures across NSW and the drivers of sustainable land management for different landholders / stakeholders.

The Department of Climate Change Energy the Environment and Water(DCCEEW) works to protect the states environment and heritage. It leads the way on climate change driving the sustainable transition to a net zero economy powered by affordable reliable and clean energy.

The New South Wales Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is a not-for-profit statutory body established under Part 10 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and managed by a Board appointed by the Minister for the Environment.

The Trusts roles are to support and encourage landholders to enter into agreements to conserve and protect biodiversity on private land guided by the governments Biodiversity Conservation Investment Strategy; secure biodiversity offsets when developers choose to pay into the Biodiversity Conservation Fund; and other activities that promote greater awareness of appreciation and understanding of biodiversity and the importance of conserving it.

We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.

Participation in the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS) and the BCTs private land conservation (PLC) programs

The successful applicant for this role will be required to declare any conflict of interests related to the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme as defined in the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme Conflict of Interests Protocol. This ensures the department is made aware of potential conflicts of interest so they can be appropriately managed.

Where an applicant has a high-risk defined interest in the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme they may be required to divest this interest before being employed by the department.

The BCT also has restrictions on staff participation in its funded PLC programs. No additional funding beyond that already agreed to by the BCT may be sought or approved during time as a BCT employee or for a 12-month period following termination of employment.
