Operational Controller

The Operational Controller role is highly impactful providing hands-on influence over inventory integrity financial controls and operational performance in a complex fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
As the Operational Controller you will bridge finance and operations to ensure accurate financial reporting strong internal controls disciplined cost management and insightful analysis across the organization. Your responsibilities will include:
Control & Risk Management
- Implement and strengthen key internal controls to reduce organizational risk and ensure financial integrity.
- Maintain confidentiality of company records while ensuring compliance with internal policies and accounting standards.
Analysis & Decision Support
- Review and interpret historical and current operational transactions to maintain accurate balances and identify trends.
- Analyze material flow inventory movements and cost drivers to support forecasting pricing and sales decisions.
- Improve fiscal health through detailed financial analysis and control enhancements.
Reporting & Business Insights
- Prepare accurate timely and meaningful financial and operational reports for all levels of the organization.
- Develop and maintain protected performance reporting to highlight risks opportunities and operational trends.
Inventory Control & Management
- Lead the monthly close process by reconciling system inventory balances to physical branch counts and resolving discrepancies with operations.
- Manage and troubleshoot inventory issues ensuring accurate and timely transaction processing.
- Develop maintain and improve inventory control systems procedures and documentation.
- Coordinate and oversee inventory counts and maintain detailed transaction records.
- Partner with operations and business development to improve inventory accuracy data integrity and timeliness.
Fixed Asset Management
- Implement and maintain a comprehensive fixed asset inventory process including tagging useful life assignment and depreciation schedules.
- Record fixed asset acquisitions disposals adjustments and depreciation on a monthly basis.
- Develop and maintain controls procedures and documentation for fixed asset tracking.
- Investigate asset obsolescence conduct physical asset counts and prepare audit schedules.
- Develop and prioritize the capital budget and track expenditures against approved authorizations.
Treasury & Cash Management
- Ensure branches have sufficient cash on hand to support daily purchasing requirements.
- Review daily cash open/close reconciliations across all branches.
Financial Statements & Audit Support
- Prepare financial statements for subsidiaries.
- Support the Financial Controller with monthly reporting packages and stakeholder materials.
- Play an active role in annual audit preparation and auditor inquiries.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role candidates should demonstrate the following:
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent.
- 35 years of progressive professional accounting or finance experience.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting fixed asset management and internal controls.
- Experience working with enterprise-level ERP systems (NetSuite experience is a strong asset).
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of integrated financial and operational management information systems.

Additional Requirements
- Infrequent travel required.
- Valid Class 5 drivers license required.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
- Primarily office-based with infrequent work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
