GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Turn the Wyoming backcountry into your office. We are looking for a skilled operator to manage the on-ground success of our snowmobile and ORV this role you will use your technical expertise to ensure our trails remain world-class delivering safe and thrilling recreational experiences to thousands of residents and visitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.

  • Conduct the daily on-ground construction and maintenance of the 2000 miles of snowmobile trails across the state of Wyoming. This includes but is not limited to trail opening at the beginning of the snowmobile season clearing the trails of down fall and hazardous trees brushing and pruning the trees to provide proper line of sight and safe passage on the snowmobile trails installing the safety and informational signing along the trails installing and maintaining the 30000 trail marker stakes (according to the state of Wyomings industry leading staking and signing guidelines) throughout the season as snow levels acumulate and removing the stakes at the end of season grooming the snowmobile trails with snowcats and drags cooridinate with grooming contractors to ensure trail maintenance needs are being met.
  • Conduct the daily on-ground construction and maintenance of the 6200 miles of ORV trails and enrolled roads across the state of Wyoming. This includes but is not limited to: clearing trails of down fall and harzardous trees brushing and pruning trees to provide proper line of sight and safe passage on the ORV trails installing and maintaining trail marker signing; using industry leading techniques and standards for the following ORV trail work duties: erosion control trail tread development reroute construction puncheon building and tread widening; operating heavy equipment such as: track hoe bull dozer skid loader and front end loader.
  • Conduct the daily in-shop maintenance and fabrication duties required on the Snowmobile Programs tools and equipment. This includes but is not limited to: in depth repair and maintenance of 2 stroke and 4 stroke snowmobile engines and drivetrain; in depth repair maintenance and fabrication of diesel powered snowcat grooming heavy equipment including engine drivetrain electrical and hydraulic systems; in depth repair maintenance and fabrication on enclosed trailers flat bed trailers equipment trailers and heavy equipment trailers.
  • Conduct the daily in-shop maintenance and fabrication duties required on the ORV Programs tools and equipment. This includes but is not limited to: in depth repair and maintenance of 4 stroke ATV UTV and Motorcycle engines and drivetrain; in depth repair maintenance and fabrication of diesel powered heavy construction equipment including the engine drivetrain electrical and hydraulic systems for track hoes bull dozers and loaders; in depth repair maintenance and fabrication on enclosed trailers flat bed trailers equipment trailers and heavy equipment trailers
  • Design and fabricate custom trailhead and trail-side facilities for both Snowmobile and ORV Programs. This includes: designing fabricating building and installing trailhead kiosks parking areas fencing restroom entry-ways and canopies; designing fabricating building and installing trail way gates pass-throughs and fencing.
  • Conduct detailed GPS mapping and traffic use counter data collection of snowmobile and ORV trails across the State of Wyoming.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:


Preference may be given to applicants with two to four years of experience in the following areas: Snowmobile and Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) maintenance and operation trail maintenance and construction sawyer certifications and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of equipment service maintenance and operation.
  • Knowledge and experience with trail design standards policies and operating procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience in construction and signage and of environmental concerns regarding trail management.
  • Knowledge and experience of snowmobile trail grooming and management.
  • Experience in problem-solving and handling many priorities and in directing work tasks and projects.
  • Knowledge and experience in juggling multiple priorities and working independently.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions with minimal protection from the elements.
  • Knowledge of reading weather patterns and avalanche potentials.
  • Skill in MS Word MS Excel and Internet Explorer.
  • Knowledge and experience with the use of a GPS/GIS and map-reading skills.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



Education:

Associates Degree

Experience:

0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in parks maintenance)

OR

Education & ExperienceSubstitution:

2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in parks maintenance)

Certificates Licenses Registrations:

None


Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work will be performed outdoors in all weather conditions.


NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • Incumbent must have and maintain a valid non-restricted drivers license.
  • The following certifications must be obtained within the first year of employment: first aid with AED ATV rider safety training chainsaw operation and safety avalanche awareness and recovery techniques Tucker Snow Cat maintenance Word and Excel.
  • Statewide travel is required.
  • The trail crew works four ten-hour days with Friday Saturday and Sunday off.
