Job Summary

Description

Montpelier Arts Center is seeking talented and qualifiedartists to teach visual arts classes. Artists needed to teach a wide variety of art genres and media including all visual arts media and many arts specialties. Must be at least 21 years old and have a B.A. or B.F.A. in visual arts or equivalent experience. Examples of what we are looking for include: drawing painting photography video/film ceramics printmaking fabric arts jewelry and writing instructors.

Montpelier Arts Center is located in Laurel Maryland. We are one of four arts facilities of The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission and serve a wide area within the Washington/Metropolitan area. We have been an arts destination for more than 40 years showcasing international national and regional artists as well as providing classes and special events. Examples of Important Duties

  • Curriculum planning
  • Facilitate classes based on topic/technique/skills of class
  • Maintaining and cleaning the classroom/studio
  • Assist in maintaining equipment/supplies

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • College degree; B.A. or B.F.A.
  • 1 year(s) experience.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of visual arts.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions involved within a arts classroom/studio.
  • Knowledge of visual art processes and techniques.
  • Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including standing for long periods.

Supplemental Information

May be subject to medical drug and alcohol testing.

Work hours

  • Hours may vary depending on whether class sessions are running. Classes run for 2-3 hours for up to 8 weeks.

Working Conditions/Environment

  • Classes typically take place indoors depending on the medium being taught that class may be held in a shared space/studio or outdoors.
