Description of Work
This position may be assigned to one or multiple sections in ECB: (Non-Criteria Pollutant Instrumentation Support Gaseous Criteria Monitoring Network Ozone Network Particulate Matter (PM) Instrumentation Support and Infrastructure Support) to assist with maintaining and learning the ambient air monitoring equipment and the infrastructure technologies. Duties will include the configuration of equipment shelters computers data loggers cellular modems and certifying calibration and measurement equipment. This will include the repair certification calibration and maintenance of air monitoring and laboratory equipment perform quality assurance procedures and manage equipment and shelters at air monitoring sites.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The Division of Air Quality:
The primary purpose of the Division of Air Quality (DAQ) is to protect and enhance the quality of the air for the State of North Carolina. This is done by: careful planning of the control strategies used in limiting air pollution by permitting air sources inspecting the sources and monitoring of the emissions and resultant ambient air. The goal is to have clean safe ambient air that can support the lives of people animals and plants and allow for economic growth. Ambient air monitoring is a Federal and State mandated function of the Division of Air Quality.
Ambient air monitoring is the mechanism that allows the Division to know how clean or dirty the air is and how well air pollution control techniques are working. The Ambient Monitoring Section (AMS) is responsible for the development implementation and maintenance of the States air pollution monitoring network as well as ensuring that accurate and reliable data are collected. This involves providing guidance procedures and oversight to state tribal and local government consults researchers Association of Air Pollution Agencies (AAPCA) and industrial facilities. This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associates degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Based on the nature of work performed may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
