Engineering Group Manager – VMEC Body Controls, Lighting & Visibility Calibration and System Test

The Role:

The Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls (VMEC) team in GMs Vehicle Software & Electronics Engineering (VSEE) organization is at the core of vehicle controldeveloping the software and calibrations that orchestrate everything from internal combustion engines and hybrid drive units to high-voltage batteries chassis thermal systems and beyond. Our mission is to continuously invent and refine how the worlds best mechatronic systems are controlled.

We are seeking an Engineering Group Manager to lead a team focused on calibration & validation of embedded software and systems in the Body Controls this role you will lead a team of talented engineers in delivering calibrations for multiple GM vehicle programs. You will own the end-to-end quality and testing of the Lighting and Visibility features and systems including Exterior Lighting Interior Lighting Dimmable Glass and Wash/Wipe. You and your team will work cross-functionally across product program and systems partners to ensure robust development integration and testing of high-quality production-ready software to support the delivery of exceptional products our customers love.

What Youll Do:

• Provide technical leadership and vision in the Body Controls domains of Lighting and Visibility technologies driving engineering excellence and adherence to best practices

• Develop and execute forward-looking calibration and test strategies aligned with customer needs and GMs transformation into a tech-driven mobility company

• Demonstrate strategic insight into emerging lighting dimmable glass and wiper technologies helping shape long-term vision and innovation through test automation

• Leverage Agile methodologies to accelerate innovation enhance team velocity and deliver high-quality calibration on time at scale

• Build and nurture a high-performing team focused on capability growth technical development and talent retention

• Foster a collaborative culture that encourages innovation ownership and continuous improvement

• Work with multiple suppliers and collaborate in functional testing performance tracking and alignment with program milestones and quality standards

• Engage in test architecture and strategy critically evaluate existing approaches and provide architectural guidance as needed

• Model and champion GMs values and behaviors in everything you do

Who You Are

• A technical leader with a strong background in embedded software and lighting systems with special emphasis on Calibration and Testing at Unit Integration System and Feature level.

• Skilled at navigating ambiguity and change in a fast-paced business & software development environment

• Passionate about mentoring and growing engineers while pushing the technical boundaries of whats possible

• Forward-thinking and excited about the role technology plays in redefining the future of mobility

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Computer Science Computer Engineering or a related technical field

• Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience related to embedded control systems calibrations and testing (eg: C programming software/hardware debugging tools CAN/LIN/ethernet network protocols Jira Git ecosystem)

• Demonstrated technical background in embedded controls

• Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional calibration and test teams throughall phases of software development from concept to deployment in an Agile environment

• Strong ability to drive results through collaboration manage multiple projects with varying priorities and measure work using data and key performance indicators

• Experience managing suppliers including technical reviews milestone tracking and issue resolution

• Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills; able to align multiple teams toward a common goal

• Proven track record of successful project execution and delivery

• Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and drive timely informed decision-making

• Valid drivers license with ability to operate test vehicles

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

• Masters degree in Engineering and/or an MBA

• Experience leading the development and implementation of industry standards in embedded systems

• Skilled in aligning team objectives with organizational goals and driving execution excellence.

• Proven ability to define and implement comprehensive test strategies architect scalable test solutions and champion automation across the testing pyramid (unit integration system and acceptance levels).

• Adept at fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

• Background in safety and regulatory compliance for embedded systems

• Experience managing globally distributed teams
