Classification: Higher Education Academic Staff: Level B (ECA employment contract)

Reporting line: Academic Lead UTAS Melbourne

In partnership with the Education Centre of Australia (ECA) the University of Tasmania (UTAS) delivers ACS-accredited ICT courses at its Melbourne Study centre Melbourne. We currently offer the Bachelor of Information (BICT) and Communication Technology and Master of Information Technology and Systems (MITS).

We are seeking to appoint up to three casual Lecturers who will be responsible for delivering the following ICT units:

  • Programming Fundamentals / Programming Foundation (required language skills: Python and Java)
  • Programming (required language skills: Python and Java)
  • Data Structures and Algorithms
  • Web Programming Fundamentals
  • Mobile Application Development
  • Big Data and Cloud Computing
  • ICT Systems Administration Fundamentals (CISCO Instructor required)
  • Introduction to AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver weekly classes/workshops in an engaging manner and at a required standard
  • Conduct student consultation and academic counselling for students who require additional support
  • Assess and provide detailed feedback on student assessments
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with all stakeholders to ensure that academic delivery requirements are resourced and met
  • Advise the Academic Lead on the continuous improvement of delivery student experience and campus operations
  • Implement early intervention strategies in collaboration with Learning Support Coordinators for students-at-risk and monitor their progress according to UTAS Policies and Procedures
  • Maintain currency in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) and that of the incumbents discipline by undertaking scholarly work and professional development

As the successful candidate you will ideally have:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline
  • 2 years experience in higher education teaching
  • Demonstrated track record in supporting the success of international students
  • Knowledge of the Higher Education Standards Framework and the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students

o Desirable:

  • Graduate Certificate or above in learning and teaching or tertiary education
  • Experience with third-party course delivery
  • Experience in working with geographically dispersed teams
