About the role:

The Clinical Mortuary Service Operations Manager at the East London Forensic Centre ensures the mortuary runs smoothly legally and safely. Handle daily operations line manage staff and respond to emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all mortuary operations ensuring compliance with the Human Tissue Act HTA Codes of Practice and Council/NHS policies.
  • Act as HTA Designated Individual
  • Lead motivate and develop mortuary staff ensuring a competent and effective workforce.
  • Manage resources budgets and equipment to deliver efficient and safe services.
  • Supervise and participate in all aspects of mortuary work including case management workflow coordination and audits.
  • Ensure accurate documentation traceability and communication for all mortuary activities.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety infection control and risk management.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota handling urgent enquiries and time-sensitive post-mortems.
  • Develop and implement continuous service improvements and contribute to policy and procedure development.
  • Provide expert advice and support to senior managers stakeholders and external partners.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (essential) with extensive post-qualification experience in NHS/Public mortuaries.
  • Level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (desirable).
  • Experience in routine and forensic post-mortem procedures.
  • Proven ability to supervise train and develop staff.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of HTA and health & safety regulations.
  • Experience working with bereaved families and developing policies/procedures.
  • Commitment to equity diversity and inclusion.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent standard is desirable.
