Whats the role

The Senior Project Manager and Transformation lead sits in the Central Legal Projects team within Legal Services Global Operations (LSGO).

Reporting to the Central Legal projects Manager the Senior Project Manager and Transformation lead is required to deliver the required transformation in legal by effectively driving & delivering dedicated projects and effecting change. This is in close partnership with legal Business and Project stakeholders. The programmes/projects are all highly complex as they span multiple distinct businesses geographies and stakeholder groups.

The role is expected to deliver efficiencies that enable lawyers to run their work without hindrance embracing technology as well as build capabilities that change ways of working. Legal has significant challenges to overcome particularly in embracing technology and adopting ways of working that enable the businesses.

The role focuses on thought leadership transformation and continuous improvement within legal. This is a strategic role responsible for defining and delivering the global transformation and continuous improvement agenda. This Central Projects team and this role partner with the Legal Leadership Team to drive change initiatives in respective teams and business lines that enhance operational excellence embed digital solutions and deliver significant cost efficiencies across Shells worldwide operations.

What youll be doing

  • Optimize project management/transformation management practices within legal and provide best practice advice guidance and thought leadership for legal wide challenges.
  • Act as a custodian and advocate for the legal project delivery tools and templates to ensure that they are to fit for purpose and are professionalize how projects are delivered within legal.
  • Lead PM activity for dedicated Transformation projects.
  • Defining the business problem statement and develop solutions to implement change
  • Guiding stakeholders through a structured process and methodology
  • Delivering project outcomes within time budget and quality
  • Transitioning the project outcomes at project closure to the appropriate business operations or risk teams to allow them to embed the changes.
  • Business case - define the problem statement with the business and obtain business buy-in for the project.
  • Global reach: Influence and implement transformation across Shell Legal teams in countries ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities while respecting local regulatory and cultural contexts. Engaging with business leaders and teams to influence behavior on legal risks.
  • Executive engagement: Act as a trusted advisor to legal leadership team to help make shaping decisions that impact on Shells global legal strategy.
  • Value Generation: Deliver measurable improvements in efficiency cost savings and digital adoption generating multi-million-dollar benefits for Shell.
  • Strategic Alignment: Ensure transformation initiatives support Shells Powering Progress strategy including energy transition sustainability and digitalization.

What you bring

  • Transformation leadership:
    • Define and execute a multi-year transformation roadmap for Shell Legal.
    • Support the Central legal Projects manager to Lead global programs focused on process optimisation technology enablement and implement the breadth of the new Legal Operating Model to realise the full value.
  • Change & Engage:
    • Design and implement a bespoke change strategy to embed new ways of working across diverse geographies.
    • Oversee guide and advise the Transformation initiatives in the legal projects team in support of the Projects Manager to create a holistic picture of the change effort across the full legal function
    • Design a cultural change programme and capability building programme within the Legal function that has ripple effects across the full Shell organisation to enable the Legal Operating Model.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Engage and influence senior executives across Shells global leadership community.
    • Facilitate alignment between Legal and business priorities to maximize impact.
  • Performance & Benefits Realisation:
    • Establish KPIs and track delivery of cost savings efficiency gains and improved service quality. Drive an uplift in SPS results across Legal.
    • Benchmark Shell Legal against industry best practices leveraging external networks and continuously identify improvement opportunities.
    • Partner with Digitalisation Manager to drive technology adoption for AI and other tools co-creating a Change & Engage Strategy to underpin and plan initiatives.
  • Programme Management in support of the CLP Manager
    • Initiate project - define scope and business outcomes determine delivery approach with resource timeline and budget requirements check feasibility.
    • Planning - develop detailed resource-based project plans which show dependencies and defined delivery roles.
    • Governance - establish fit for purpose Governance to oversee management of the projects to ensure they deliver against their objectives have effective decision-making processes and maintain senior stakeholder support.
    • Tracking - track project progress against plan and budget manage projects changes through change control process.
    • Risk and Issue management - Identify and manage risks and issues to keep delivery on track making interventions to remove project barriers or escalate early for support in resolution.
    • Reporting - Consistently report progress to senior management using executive summaries supported by key delivery metrics.
    • Change Management - Develop the case for change assess the Business impacts and develop a robust change management plan
    • Delivery - motivate and lead a cross functional team (internal and external) to deliver to plan and budget. And actively develop the culture of a high performing team
    • Project closure - assess project status against closure criteria and manage transition into business-as-usual. Evaluate successes and challenges to enhance learning for future projects.
    • Partner with project team members to drive alignment across a complex landscape ofstakeholders who may hold a range of different views and support the Business Lead / PM to manage stakeholder relationships.
    • Maintain a collaborative working environment where the team is motivated to deliver and actively develop the culture of a high performing team.
    • Coaching & development no direct reports but expected to coach and guide others through the project journey.

Essential experience & qualifications:

Minimum of 12 years leading enterprise-wide transformation and change programmes in multiple global organisations (outside of Shell) bringing best practice insights from legal compliance and risk functions in other large organisations.

Proven track record of designing and delivering cultural transformation programmes with measurable impact.

Extensive experience engaging C-suite executives General Counsels Country Chairs and other senior business stakeholders on strategic change initiatives.

Expertise in legal technology enablement and adoption including AI-driven compliance tools.

Demonstrated success in multi-country rollouts and complex stakeholder landscapes including Works Councils and regulatory bodies.

Strong background in operating model design capability frameworks and career pathways for legal professionals.

Certifications in Change Management and Agile delivery with hands-on experience in enterprise platforms.

Commercial acumen with experience managing budgets of $2m programmes and leading large teams of 10 across internal and consultancy environments.
