Teacher of Chinese (August 2026 - June 2027) Kennedy School

Kennedy School is seeking to appointan enthusiastic and dedicated early career Teacher of Chinese from August 2026 to June 2027. The position will be on a 10.5month contract. The position is suitable for newly qualified teachers or teachers early in their teaching career.


Brief Job Overview:

The primary role of the Teacher of Chinese is to design learning experiences that are accessible to all students. Recognising that every child learns differently the teacher plans with this diversity in mind from the outset moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach.

As a teacher at Kennedy School you will set high expectations for all learners while providing the flexible options they need to reach them. This involves proactively identifying and removing barriers so that every student can engage deeply and succeed. Through constant reflection and a commitment to providing students with choice and voice you will empower every child to become a motivated independent and successful learner.

Beyond the classroom you will collaborate with the school community to foster an environment where students belong learn and flourish. You will also build strong partnerships with parents and caregivers through clear consistent communication.

As a valued member of our team you will contribute to the development of school initiatives and help put our shared goals into practice. To ensure the smooth running of the school all teachers also participate in school-wide activities and additional duties as needed.

Main Accountabilities

Planning Teaching and Assessment

  • Planning lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students individual learning needs and to ensure progression
  • Using a range of appropriate strategies for teaching and learning and classroom management
  • Using information about prior attainment to set expectations for students
  • Using a range of assessment and reporting methods that show students achievement in relation to learning outcomes
  • Providing clear and constructive feedback to students and their parents and caregivers
  • Being a valuable and collaborative member of the Chinese team.

Wider professional roles

  • Planning and engaging in professional learning activities that support the school and systematic priorities
  • Collaborating with staff and students to highlight and celebrate Chinese culture and language learning with the community.
  • Taking responsibility for own professional development and using the outcomes to improve teaching and students learning
  • Making an active contribution to the policies and aspirations of the school
  • Ensuring administration of classroom procedures is completed efficiently
  • Collaborating with members of the school community to build a team environment that supports students learning
  • Involve actively in tasks for student wellbeing

Additional responsibilities may include

  • Assisting with or managing an aspect of daily school management
  • Contribute to the school extra-curricular programme / broader school activities within the year
  • Assisting in the planning implementation and review of teaching and learning programmes
  • Assisting in the development of curriculum policies and programmes
  • Contributing to the Foundation-wide professional development programme

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Education or a Bachelors degree in any subject with a Postgraduate
  • Chinese language expertise.
  • Certificate/Diploma in Education (PGCE/PGDE)
  • An understanding of the PYP and the key underpinnings of the curriculum frameworks is advantageous
  • Newly qualified teacher or teacher early in their teaching career with experience within a recognised educational institute
  • Primarytrained.
  • Knowledge of English is a prerequisite.
  • Genuineinterest and experience in teaching children with different cultural background

Desirable Qualities

  • Have knowledge and understanding of the Chinese language and culture from a local and global perspective and demonstrate fluency across all aspects of Chinese language learning.
  • Understand the needs of bilingual and multilingual learners and can use strategies to engage them in learning.
  • Proven knowledge and skills of innovative pedagogical approaches to language curriculum in the international school context
