DescriptionSummary:
The Coordinator of Clinical Experiences and Community Engagement/ Instructor of Education plays a vital role in advancing Claflin Universitys mission to develop visionary leaders who are dedicated to excellence innovation and service. This position combines instructional responsibilities with the coordination of field placements clinical partnerships and community engagement initiatives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep commitment to preparing culturally competent educators fostering meaningful schoolcommunity relationships and ensuring compliance with CAEP and South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduates in teacher preparation programs (e.g. foundations of education instructional strategies assessment classroom management or human growth and development).
Design and implement course content that aligns with CAEP standards state certification requirements and university learning outcomes.
Utilize culturally responsive pedagogy and innovative instructional technology to enhance student engagement and learning.
Provide academic advising and mentorship to education majors supporting their professional growth and readiness for the teaching profession.
Participate in program assessment and curriculum development to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with accreditation standards.
Serve as the primary liaison between Claflin University and partner P12 schools across Orangeburg County and surrounding districts.
Coordinate all aspects of student field and clinical placements ensuring experiences meet CAEP SCDE and institutional expectations.
Recruit train and support cooperating teachers university supervisors and mentor principals.
Conduct orientation sessions for candidates entering clinical experiences addressing professionalism dispositions and ethical conduct.
Develop and maintain systems for tracking placement data performance evaluations and candidate progress through platforms such as Watermark LiveText or Taskstream.
Support faculty in integrating field experiences within course curricula to strengthen theory-to-practice connections.
Design implement and evaluate community engagement initiatives that strengthen the pipeline between Claflin University and local schools districts and nonprofit organizations.
Foster sustainable partnerships that promote service learning tutoring mentoring and teacher development programs within the Orangeburg community.
Collaborate with university offices faculty and external partners to align community engagement activities with institutional goals for civic responsibility and educational excellence.
Represent the School of Education at district meetings advisory councils and regional educational forums.
Maintain accurate documentation and reports related to field placements partnerships and accreditation compliance.
Assist with CAEP SCDE and institutional reporting requirements.
Serve on School of Education committees related to accreditation assessment and community outreach.
Support recruitment and retention initiatives for teacher education candidates.
Participate in professional development to remain current in educational best practices accreditation standards and community-based learning models.
Responsible for Transition Point I formal admission to the teacher education program Transition Point II formal admission to professional clinical practice andTransition III completion of professional clinical experience.
QualificationsMasters degree in education or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
