Job Description

The Department of Human Performance at Minnesota State University Mankato invites applications for a probationary Assistant Professor beginning August 19 2026. The successful candidate will have a doctorate degree in Sport Exercise and Performance Psychology Kinesiology or related field by August 1 2026. This position requires teaching and advising to support the undergraduate programs in Human Performance and graduate program in Sport Exercise and Performance Psychology. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the following undergraduate and graduate courses: HP 290 Psycho-social Aspects of Sport HP 630 Techniques of Research HP 646 Exercise Psychology and Behavior Change HP 648 Professional Ethics in Sport and Exercise Psychology HP 672 Psychology of Sport and Athletic Injury HP 683 Working with Diverse Populations in Sport Psychology HP 649 Sport and American Culture HP 690 Practicum in Sport Exercise and Performance Psychology and/or other courses based on program needs and successful candidates expertise. The successful candidate should currently hold or have potential to become a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) and approved mentor with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology within the first year of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct supervision to graduate students during day afternoon and evening hours depending on the consulting schedule for team sessions. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing individual supervision of graduate students individual client sessions.

This position requires active engagement in scholarship advising of masters thesis continuing preparation services to the University community and discipline.

• A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
• The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
• May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face hybrid and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus online and/or at the universitys additional locations as assigned.
• The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design instruction and evaluation conduct research productively and mentor students in research help create innovative strategies for student recruitment retention and completion and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
• All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research in continuing preparation and study in contributing to student growth and development and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).
• The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Human Performance and graduate courses in Sport Exercise and Performance Psychology.
• The successful candidate will supervise graduate students Sport Exercise and Performance Psychology consulting.
• The successful candidate will work with program faculty to develop new sites for practicum and internship consulting experiences.
• The successful candidate will be available weekday afternoons and evenings for direct supervision of graduate students Sport Exercise and Performance Psychology consulting depending on consulting schedule.

The Department of Human Performance offers undergraduate programs in Exercise Science Physical Education-DAPE and Sport Management and graduate programs in Athletic Training Exercise Physiology and Sport Exercise and Performance Psychology. The Sport Exercise and Performance Psychology Graduate Program has an enrollment of 30-50 graduate students.
