GENERAL PURPOSE: |
Under the general supervision of the Solid Waste Commercial Superintendent the Solid Waste Lead Laborer leads and participates in the delivery of solid waste containers assist in collections disposal cleaning of containers facility maintenance and other tasks. This position provides on-site leadership ensures safe work practices and maintains efficient service delivery to city residents. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: |
Receives direct supervision from the Superintendent Commercial Solid Waste - Operations. |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
Lead and coordinate solid waste laborers in the delivery of solid waste containers assist in collections disposal cleaning of containers facility maintenance and other tasks. Perform waste collection site maintenance and material handling operations when needed. Operate equipment such as loaders compactors mowers tractors and other Non-CDL equipment/vehicles. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards. Assist superintendent with scheduling workload distribution and crew coverage. Train staff on equipment operation safety and regulatory compliance. Monitor facility conditions and report operational or environmental concerns. Interact with the public contractors and haulers in a professional manner. Maintain operational records and assist with inspections or audits. The employee must have the ability to work well with others and have a good/pleasant attitude. Adherence to attendance policies is a condition of employment. Performs other essential duties as required to achieve successful operations of the department. Ability to effectively communicate and work with citizens who may have complaints on services provided. Must be able to follow directions. Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function. |

May serve as a member of various employee committees. Other Duties as assigned. |
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: |
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required. Preferred 3 years of solid waste or transfer station experience. Preferred six (6) months related experience in janitorial/custodial and facility maintenance useful. Valid State Drivers License or able to get one by date of hire. |

Skills to operate equipment effectively and safely; Ability to perform strenuous outdoor work; Ability to service vehicles and equipment; Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and safety procedures; Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with fellow employees. |
