Job Summary:

University Housing is looking for an experienced leader to join the Housing Facilities team as an Associate Director Facilities Capital Projects & Trades!

As the Associate Director Facilities Capital Projects & Trades youll provide critical direct oversight of all capital planning (full scope of budgeting requests for projects design and execution) and operational trades work. Additionally this position assists the Director of Facilities with the overall management of the Facilities operation. This position will also develop and implement documentation for standards/guidelines for project and trades related work to support an exceptional living and dining experience for staff residents and their families.

Work Schedule:

  • The primary schedule for this position is 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am - 5:00pm with an on-call rotation as required by the department.
  • Work schedule will be set with selected finalist(s) at time of offer. Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists in developing and auditing multiple project or program budgets
  • Develops and directs planning of one or multiple facilities or projects to foster innovative solutions meeting the needs of an academic or research institution
  • Exercises supervisory authority including hiring transferring suspending promoting managing conduct and performance discharging assigning rewarding disciplining and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • Assists with the development execution and utilization of strategic planning analysis to determine long term institutional needs and develop sustainable solutions
  • Assists with the development of operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations best practices and institutional objectives
  • Oversees capital planning and execution of projects for residence halls dining and apartment units. Develops and implements communications plan for all project work in collaboration with campus and divisional partners.

University Housing Facilities is a part of the Division of University Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and focuses on building services mechanical maintenance and long-term infrastructure projects and planning. As a student service organization University Housing Facilitiesprovides quality living/learning environments to approximately 8000 undergraduate student residents during the academic year and 18000 guests in the summer months. Additionally they serve the University Apartments community which is approximately 3000 residents in 1240 apartments on 83 acres. The University Apartments Community also includes a large Community Center and a University Housing-operated licensed early childhood education program.

University Residence Halls consists of 30 buildings containing approximately 2 million square feet and 37 acres of surrounding addition to residential living spaces the residence hall infrastructure supports many functions and programs requiring many types of spaces such as classrooms office space dining and culinary space including commercial kitchens and marketplace areas mechanical support spaces and large meeting rooms.

Compensation:

The starting annual salary is $110000 or higher based on qualifications with a competitive retirement and benefits package including vacation holidays and paid time off. Benefits information can be found at (

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 10 years of progressively responsible experience in facility planning capital projects or a combination of design construction and facilities operations.
  • 3 5 years of supervisory experience of full-time direct reports.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with capital project delivery and development of budget with responsible projects.
  • Knowledge of building operations and building codes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills (verbal and written).

Education:

Bachelors degree preferred in Construction Management Facilities Management Business Administration or other applicable degree.
