The AWS H&S Data team is hiring a Data Engineer (DE). The Data team spans the Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Engineering (DE) functional areas and is responsible for providing all reporting solutions required by the AWS H&S Organization to drive workplace safety and regulatory compliance worldwide. This role drives the design and implementation of data solutions within the AWS H&S domain leveraging advanced AWS technologies and big data platforms to deliver scalable data architecture components. The position focuses on solving complex data warehousing challenges through automated ETL processes optimized model deployments and robust analytics tools that enable self-service capabilities. Working directly with stakeholders and technical partners this role translates business requirements into actionable solutions while maintaining high standards of data governance and system performance. The role also champions innovation by evaluating emerging technologies implementing best practices and continuously enhancing the data infrastructure to meet evolving business needs.

Key job responsibilities
Architect and deliver enterprise-scale data infrastructure solutions enabling robust dataset management and advanced business intelligence capabilities
Build and orchestrate complex ETL processes across diverse data sources using SQL and AWS technologies collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams
Drive data architecture decisions through comprehensive technical documentation and evidence-based recommendations to stakeholder teams
Streamline reporting workflows and implement automated solutions to enhance stakeholder self-service capabilities and operational efficiency
Lead strategic initiatives with BI and technology partners to optimize data pipelines improve data accessibility and enhance infrastructure performance
Learn and influence adoption of latest AWS technologies to expand platform capabilities and drive operational excellence
Travel up to 25%

A day in the life
We are looking for an analytical and results-oriented data engineer to work directly with members of the Data Center Health and Safety (DCHS) teams Data Center Operations (DCO) and the various AWS teams to focus on developing and implementing data engineering solutions.

About the team
The AWS Health and Safety (H&S) team is an expanding a dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWSs growth around the world as well as ensuring compliance of AWSs global operations including physical data centers as well as other AWS facilities customer-facing enterprises and products. The H&S team has responsibility for architecting and implementing AWSs global safety programs. This includes defining and implementing risk management and compliance systems and driving their continuous improvement; setting and refining global policies and procedures; overseeing the development of standards tools auditing and metrics and employee training; ensuring effective engagement by H&S teams on global initiatives including those that are part of Amazons ambitious sustainability goals; providing specialist expertise; and engaging with all AWS business units to provide scalable and H&S compliance strategies that support current and future business objectives while ensuring employee safety and compliance with H&S regulations.

- 3 years of data engineering experience
- 1 years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics using ETL/ELT processes experience
- 1 years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics using data modeling experience
- 1 years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics using SQL experience
- Bachelors degree

- Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift S3 AWS Glue EMR Kinesis FireHose Lambda and IAM roles and permissions
- Experience with non-relational databases / data stores (object storage document or key-value stores graph databases column-family databases)
- Experience building/operating highly available distributed systems of data extraction ingestion and processing of large data sets
- Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers for best practices on data engineering

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
