Department: Manufacturing

SUMMARY: Responsible for developing and promoting a safe and environmentally friendly work environment by following local state and federal guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Knowledge of OSHA / MSHA / EPA / DEP policies and requirements.
  2. Knowledge of EPA / DEP requirements on hazardous waste and hazardous materials.
  3. Skilled with Microsoft Office to include the ability to produce documents.
  4. Skilled with forklifts cranes and rigging usages and the ability to teach others.
  5. Strong organizational skills.
  6. Effective communication and interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to stay calm and cool-headed in the event of an emergency.
  8. Ability to conduct individual and group EHS training for all personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implements EHS policies and procedures to be followed by company or plant personnel in compliance with local state and federal rules/regulations.
  • Implements EHS prevention programs to reduce or eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Assists with studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
  • Conducts individual and group EHS training for all personnel in compliance with Federal and state regulations and company policy.
  • Assists with developing and distributing education materials training programs and/or media which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety and environmental consciousness.
  • Completes daily monthly and annual site inspections assessment audits on company facilities.
  • Coordinates company safety committee and audit teams assuring corrective action is taken where needed.
  • Responds and provides assistance to all emergency situations.
  • Maintains EHS records including training and site audits.
  • Provides data for OSHA 300 log TRIR and DART rates.
  • Monitors proper disposal of industrial wastes in compliance with local state and federal regulations.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Functions in a workplace of dignity and respect for all.
  • Functions as a team member and to get along with others.
  • Honors EEO guidelines and principles.
  • Reports for work on time as scheduled and ready to perform.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as directed assigned or as necessary to accomplish the departments objectives in an effective manner.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Accountable for all concerns within their scope of work and has the absolute responsibility to remedy report and/or communicate any issue to managers supervisors safety or environmental managers as appropriate.
  • Follows all EHS work practices watches out for fellow workers and keeps their work area clean.
  • Ensures area remains compliant regarding hazardous waste non-hazardous waste and universal waste.
  • The following personal protection equipment is required and must be worn while working in the manufacturing facility or customers facilities:
  1. Company approved safety glasses or goggles
  2. Company approved steel / composite toe shoes.
  3. Appropriate hand protection.
  4. Ear protection in designated areas.
  5. Appropriate clothing and other safety equipment as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and minimum of one year safety experience or combination of education and experience.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as CFRs for safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
  • COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE SKILLS: Microsoft Office: Word Excel Access and PowerPoint software.
  • EQUIPMENT: Cranes forklifts other mechanical equipment computer and other general office equipment.
  • CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS: CPR AED First Aid Certified. 10/30 Hour General Industry Course preferred.

  • The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet; however the noise level in the manufacturing environment is usually loud and may require the employee to wear hearing protection.
  • On the occasion when the employee visits off-site locations they may be exposed to areas that require additional personal safety equipment such as hard hat hearing protection and respiratory protection.
