Job Description
Tunnel Maintenance is responsible for maintaining eight tunnels across NYC that house Con Edisons critical infrastructure. Tunnel Maintenance Mechanics perform scheduled inspections maintain and repair essential equipment such as sump pumps and electrical systems respond to emergency alarms and conduct security patrols on a rotating schedule to ensure reliability and safety.

Install maintain repair and troubleshoot various types of mechanical and electrical equipment.
Perform scheduled inspections and respond to emergency alarms.
Maintain and repair sump pumps and other electrical systems.
Conduct security patrols on a rotating schedule.
Use hand and power tools for maintenance and repair tasks.
Advance to the Mechanic A title within Gas Operations.
Maintain compliance with Operator Qualification Covered Tasks under Department of Transportation (DOT) and Public Service Commission (PSC) regulations.
Obtain and maintain an Asbestos license.

Required Education/Experience
High School Diploma/GED
Relevant Work Experience
Basic mechanical and electrical skills including knowledge of electricity electrical work conduit installation and pump maintenance.
Working knowledge of environmental requirements related to mechanical and electrical equipment maintenance.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to use hand and power tools effectively.
Willingness to obtain and maintain required certifications and licenses (e.g. Asbestos license Operator Qualification compliance).
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed

Able to work in all weather conditions i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
Perform heavy manual labor i.e. push pull and lift up to 50lbs
Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds and entering confined spaces
Ability to work in adverse conditions that include noise confined spaces and high elevations
Ability to climb ladders and stairs
Ability to work on elevated platforms scaffolds catwalks roofs and/or other equipment
Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e. excessive heat cold noise confined spaces)
Ability to work with and in the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal in accordance with OSHA regulations
Stand walk lift climb bend kneel stoop and/or reach for the duration of the workday
Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy machinery i.e. jackhammers
Use hand-eye coordination to adjust controls on equipment
Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e. an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies which may include nights weekends and holidays.
Able to climb A-frame ladder
Able to wear a fall arrest harness
Able to work from a suspended scaffold (i.e. Sky Climber basket)
Able to climb ladders and landings in and out of tunnels up to 520 feet
Free climb ladders and landings up to 260 feet high
