We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Tax Accountant to join a dynamic Finance team for a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Pretoria.
This role is critical for ensuring tax compliance across a multinational group specifically focusing on addressing backlogs and managing tax risks.
The primary objective of this position is to maintain up-to-date tax compliance for various multinational entities. You will be responsible for catching up on a backlog of income tax returns and transfer pricing compliance while managing ongoing tax risk activities.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance Backlog
- Submit or amend historical income tax returns across six jurisdictions.
Audit & Dispute Management
- Resolve tax authority queries and audits and manage Voluntary Disclosures.
Tax Projects
- Pursue tax refunds roll out Transfer Pricing documentation and obtain Withholding Tax (WHT) Double Tax Agreement rate approvals.
Consultant Oversight
- Manage and be accountable for in-country tax consultants who support compliance activities.
Tax Accounting
- Calculate income tax and deferred tax for accruals and provisional taxes ensuring the accuracy of tax accounts in the trial balance.
Reporting
- Maintain group tracking schedules and provide real-time status reporting to stakeholders using tools like Jira.
General
- Assist the wider finance team e.g. review/improve recons
- Keep abreast of tax regulatory developments in all relevant countries
- Consult on tax impact of proposed changes
Requirements
- BComm degree is required a Post Graduate qualification in Tax is highly preferred
- Registration with SAIT SAIPA ACCA SAIBA AGA(SA) or CA(SA)
- Completed articles preferably within a tax practice
- Post-articles experience in tax within a multinational group or a specialized accounting/tax practice.
- Proven experience with large business tax returns in a multinational environment.
- Advanced MS Excel skills and a deep understanding of cross-border tax principles.
- Ability to work under your own initiative without constant guidance.
- Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced scaling environment under sustained pressure.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills for reporting and stakeholder engagement.
