Our client in Soweto seeks a reliable detail-focused Assistant Bookkeeper to assist with financial transaction processing and ensure statutory compliance aligned with South African financial and tax regulations.
Duties and responsibilities:
Capture and process supplier invoices customer invoices receipts and payments
Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP)
Perform bank cash and creditor reconciliations
Assist with VAT 201 calculations and submissions
Reconcile VAT control accounts and maintain supporting documentation
Assist with payroll support functions including PAYE UIF and SDL
Support monthly EMP201 submissions and EMP501 bi-annual reconciliations
Prepare schedules to support month-end and management reporting
Maintain accurate and audit-ready financial records
Respond to supplier and internal account queries
Assist during external audits and independent reviews
Ensure compliance with company policies internal controls and relevant legislation.
Requirements:
Certificate or Diploma in Bookkeeping Accounting or Finance
13 years bookkeeping or finance administration experience
Working knowledge of South African VAT and payroll legislation
Experience with accounting software such as Sage Pastel Sage Accounting Xero or QuickBooks
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
High level of accuracy and integrity
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
