Your role
As Employer Engagement & Career Development Manager you will bridge the gap between Malengos scholars and the German labor market with a primary focus on TVET (vocational training) placements.
Your core responsibility is to secure and maintain apprenticeship opportunities particularly in healthcare while also developing pathways in green skills logistics cleaning gastronomy engineering and business conversations with relevant employers you will identify internships and student job opportunities for our university students where applicable.
Your work will directly shape the success of Malengos programs by building employer trust expanding partner networks and representing Malengo within Germanys vocational and skills ecosystem.
Your responsibilities
1. Employer Engagement & Network Development
Build expand and sustain a strong employer network offering:
- Apprenticeships (Ausbildung)
Primary focus on healthcare professions
Additional focus on TVET-relevant and future-oriented sectors including logistics gastronomy cleaning services technical trades and green/skills-adjacent roles
Student jobs (e.g. logistics hospitality cleaning) in coordination with internal teams
Internships particularly aligned with engineering and business administration where relevant to Malengo scholars
Key activities include:
- Representing Malengo at job fairs conferences vocational education events and industry forums.
- Proactively identifying and engaging employers and vocational training institutions (Berufsschulen) through targeted outreach visits and structured follow-ups.
- Building and maintaining relationships with employers vocational schools and training providers to enable high-quality apprenticeship (Ausbildung) placements.
- Acting as the main point of contact for employer and vocational school partners ensuring satisfaction continuity and long-term collaboration.
- Strengthening Malengos visibility and credibility within Germanys vocational training ecosystem including both companies and educational institutions.
- Tracking and reporting on partnerships placements and outcomes including success stories for internal and external stakeholders.
- Negotiating and formalizing cooperation agreements with employers vocational schools and training providers.
2. Program Strategy & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the development of employer engagement strategies with a clear TVET-first perspective.
- Collect structured feedback from employers and scholars to continuously improve placement quality and processes.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams in Germany and East Africa to ensure alignment between employer needs scholar profiles and program objectives.
- Support cross-program collaboration by identifying and promoting student job and internship opportunities for Malengos university scholars where employer needs and pathways intersect.
Qualifications :
Required qualifications
Deeply motivated by Malengos mission and committed to supporting our scholars success.
Minimum 5 years of experience in recruitment employer engagement sales business development customer acquisition or a related field.
Excellent relationship-building and communication skills adaptable to diverse stakeholders.
Confident public representative: proactive persuasive and professional.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities.
Tertiary education (vocational qualification Bachelors Masters or equivalent).
Based in Germany and willing to travel regularly (approx. 1 trip per month).
Languages: German (C2 / native-level) and English (C1)
Desirable qualifications
Intercultural sensitivity and experience working with migrants refugees or international students.
Existing network or experience in healthcare vocational training or skills-shortage sectors.
Understanding of regulations related to employing non-EU nationals or refugees
Knowledge of the German dual education (Ausbildung) system or workforce integration programs.
Experience in NGOs foundations or international development contexts.
East African languages (e.g. Swahili or other regional languages) are an asset.
