Job Summary

Position Summary

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

We have an exciting opportunity for two (2) English Instructor positions located at our campus. These positions are full-time tenure-track academic positions. The ideal candidates need to be student oriented in their approach and dedicated to student success. They should be skilled in engaging students in learning by affirming and developing their prior cultural knowledge and will create welcoming learning environments that are equity-based. Full-time faculty are typically assigned 15 lecture hours (or the equivalent in laboratory studio or related activities) of student contact time per week. Office hours are also required. Faculty are expected to participate in college service committees and/or a variety of task forces. Teaching assignments may include a mixture of day evening multi-campus off-campus and online classes.

The English Departments primary focus is on diversity in all its forms recognizing the substantial possibility for growth that comes from faculty and students who represent and engage deeply within our vast democracy. We offer a wide range of course offerings and campus resources to uphold our strong commitment to students and their success while providing challenging coursework in composition literature critical thinking and creative writing. Towards this commitment to success the department also provides instructional support in the Reading and Writing Center in computer-enriched classrooms and through online modalities.


Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree upper/graduate level units earned and/or related professional occupational experience per theLos Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract(the initial maximum placement is Class V Step 8). Minimum Qualifications

  1. Have a masters in english literature comparative literature or composition; OR bachelors ienglish literature comparative literature or composition and masters in linguistics TESL speech education with a specialization in reading creative writing or journalism; OR the equivalent. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by August 20 2026.
  2. Have an equity-minded focus responsiveness and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability gender identity sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

Transcript Requirements:
  • Transcripts must be from an accredited U.S. institutions or approved foreign evaluation agency.
  • Foreign transcript evaluations must be issued by an AICE (Association of International Credential Evaluation Inc.) or NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) member agency. See the Foreign Transcript Evaluation webpage for details.
  • Transcripts mustclearly identify the degree(s) being used to meet the Minimum Qualifications.
  • If more than one degree is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications (e.g. a bachelors and a masters) transcripts for each degree must be included.
