We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our clinical team and uphold the highest care standards.
Position Summary
The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall clinical operations of Heartwood Lodge. This senior leadership role ensures residents receive top-quality care oversees nursing staff performance maintains regulatory compliance and works collaboratively with the Administrator to foster a positive resident-centered culture.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Provide strategic leadership to the nursing department ensuring high standards of resident care.
- Recruit develop mentor and retain nursing staff fostering a culture of teamwork accountability and excellence.
- Oversee scheduling staffing levels and staff competence to meet resident needs.
- Lead daily clinical operations and participate in interdisciplinary meetings.
Clinical Oversight & Quality Care
- Ensure the delivery of safe individualized and evidence-based nursing care.
- Monitor resident conditions and provide oversight for assessments care plans and care delivery.
- Lead quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
- Review clinical data incidents and trends to drive continuous improvement.
Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain full compliance with state and federal regulations including CMS MDHHS and survey requirements.
- Prepare for and manage state surveys; ensure timely follow-up on corrective actions.
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation consistent with regulatory and facility standards.
Resident & Family Engagement
- Build positive relationships with residents and their families addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
- Promote a resident-centered philosophy throughout the nursing department.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Administrator Medical Director interdisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Communicate clearly with staff at all levels to support effective clinical operations.
Qualifications
Required
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
- Minimum 35 years of nursing leadership experience in long-term care or skilled nursing.
- Thorough knowledge of CMS regulations state survey processes and LTC best practices.
- Proven ability to lead teams manage performance and foster a positive work environment.
- Strong organizational communication and decision-making skills.
Preferred
- Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems commonly used in LTC.
- Successful track record improving clinical outcomes and survey performance.
