EIPS is recruiting a permanent full-time Maintenance Service Worker for our Facility Services department.

Elk Island Public Schools Central Services building is located in Sherwood Park at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the Division Central Services is comprised of eight departments in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include Education Executive Communication Services Facility Services Student Transportation Human Resources Financial Services Supports for Students and Information Technologies. Central Services is staffed by 190 employees.

JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Service Worker performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to help ensure functionality and cleanliness at Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) facilities. The position assists tradespeople with tasks related to plumbing carpentry electrical and HVAC systems. The Maintenance Service Worker also ensures the cleanliness of the workshop and surrounding areas and provides facilities support for meetings events and daily operations as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

General Maintenance

  • Perform general maintenance and repair work at EIPS facilities
  • Assist tradespeople with tasks related to plumbing carpentry electrical systems lighting and HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning) systems.
  • Respond to unexpected maintenance issues including emergencies and remediation needs.
  • Perform building repairs and general carpentry tasks including drywall preparation and graffiti removal.
  • Assist with exterior and interior painting. Maintain the cleanliness of the workshop shared spaces and surrounding exterior grounds area.
  • Assist with seasonal duties such as snow removal and grass cutting.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and regulations.
  • Set up and take down furniture and equipment for board meeting rooms events and daily operations as needed.
  • Serve as backup support for the Shipping/Receiver position as needed.

Equipment and Systems

  • Operate hand and power tools required for various tasks.
  • Operate forklift and provide support with the use of aerial lifts as required.
  • Maintain the Central Services outbuildings and other designated facility spaces.
  • Report safety hazards or equipment malfunctions/repairs to supervisors.
  • Ensure proper storage of tools supplies and maintenance materials.
  • Assist with parts pick-up and deliveries as needed to support maintenance operations.

Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work orders and prioritize assigned work tasks.
  • Assist in tracking materials and supply usage and notify supervisors of inventory needs.
  • Provide input for the Maintenance Services budget.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Forklift operating certification.

Preferred: 5th Class Power Engineering

Experience

Minimum Required: 6 months of related experience.

Preferred: 1 year of related experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Skills in performing routine maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Knowledge and abilities in operating hand and power tools and forklifts.
  • Good written and speaking English communication skills.
  • Ability to check repair manuals and parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Skills in organizing and prioritizing tasks problem solving and time management.
  • Ability to adapt to change and frequent work interruptions.
  • Good computer skills to manage work order status and completion.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting bending and climbing.

Qualifications Certifications and Designations

Minimum Required: Alberta Drivers License in good standing as per the requirements of the Elk Island Public Schools Vehicle and Equipment Operating Manual.
