Director of Safety

We are one of the largest commercial electrical contractors in New York City offering design-build solutions for government agencies utilities and private enterprises. We specialize in outdoor electrical construction and maintenance solutions ranging from intelligent transportation systems (ITS) to fiber optic networks to power systems and more.

Welsbach Electric Corp. (Welsbach) is one of the largest commercial electrical contractors in New York City. We specialize in outdoor electrical construction and maintenance for government agencies utilities and private enterprises. Our headquarters are located in Queens NY where we maintain an extensive in-house inventory of materials tools and a fleet in order to provide prompt electrical maintenance services.

Our field force consists of highly qualified IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) journeymen electricians and linemen. These employees are supported by experienced project management estimating engineering accounting and administrative personnel who together make us one of the leading New York City electrical contracting companies.

SUMMARY

The Director of Safety will be accountable for creating a safe accident-free healthy work environment and will facilitate and support the companies Safety program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Develop and Maintain the companys current Environmental Health and Safety policies and implement new risk control measures as needed


• Independently develop distribute and manage life cycle of JHAs SWPs and CWPs


• Collaborate with Project Executives Project Managers and Superintendents on each project and provide technical support for all EHS requirements


• Direct jobsite EHS activities as required by our Company OSHA and Industry standards


• Identify control and eliminate hazardous site conditions that may lead to worker injury or property damage


• Oversee and/or perform regular project walk throughs and provide Observations and corrective action reporting thru companys online project management application


• Ensure subcontractor EHS policies JHAs and pre-installation safety requirements are met for trades prior to their on-site activity


• Ensure that federal state and local safety laws regulations codes and rules are observed and that OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met

• Provide monthly reporting to company Executive Team


• Audit/Manage Corporate Safety Policy


• Perform Root Cause Analysis of incidents and prepare & implement prevention plans


• Oversee Fleet (Vehicle) Safety and Roadworker Safety

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Degree or Certification in safety management or relevant field is preferred


• Minimum 5 yrs of experience in a professional safety role; proven successful experience as a safety manager preferred


• Associate/Certified Safety Professional (ASP/CSP) Preferred but not required


• Knowledge of Roadworker Protection/MUTCD standards a plus


• OSHA 500 certification preferred


• Experience writing Health And Safety Plans (HASPs) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs).


• Deep understanding of occupational health and safety guidelines/regulations


• In-depth knowledge of the construction industry federal state and city environmental and safety regulations and practices.


• Ability to do public speaking for safety training purposes.


• Must have a valid drivers license in good standing.

COMPUTER SKILLS

• Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Outlook Word and Excel).


• In General a working knowledge of project document control software is expected.


• Must demonstrate proficiency in electronic document filing and management

Compensation Range:$130k - $175k depending on Experience.
