About the role
Working closely with the CEO and leadership team the deputy CEO provides strategic direction across the corporation ensuring AMSANT remains influential and culturally strong delivering outstanding services and outcomes for Aboriginal community controlled health services in the Northern Territory.
Focusing on operational and administrative functions the deputy CEO contributes to the strategic vision and growth of AMSANT and is responsible for several high level strategic and operational outcomes which include:
- supporting and providing strategic direction to a high performing leadership team
- overseeing a highly skilled and empowered workforce throughout the corporation
- overseeing systems and compliance for the corporation
- representing AMSANT and working with members and government stakeholders.
About you
You are an experienced Aboriginal leader with sound knowledge of issues related to Aboriginal communities such as culturally safety and trauma informed practice. You are experienced in leading and managing staff and overseeing service delivery government funding and program budgets.
You will have relevant tertiary qualifications and you may have held a similar role within an Aboriginal community controlled organisation.
Your interpersonal and communication skills will ensure you work effectively with a broad range of people within and outside the corporation. Above all you will demonstrate honesty integrity diplomacy and a sense of fairness.
The filling of the deputy chief executive officer position is intended to constitute a special/equal opportunity measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and s 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT). Responsibilities:
- Support the CEO and provide strategic direction to a high performing leadership team.
- Undertake acting or representational duties for the chief executive officer as required.
- Provide and contribute advice to the corporation in implementing reviewing and revisiting the corporations strategic aims and directions.
- Provide direction and leadership towards the achievement of AMSANTs vision and strategic objectives as a member of the senior management team.
- Coordinate the efficient delivery of AMSANT services as per the strategic and operational plans.
- Ensure accountability for corporation resources policies and procedures.
- Lead the corporations corporate services functions.
- Support the corporations financial management functions.
- Support and provide guidance to managers in dealing with employee and operational matters.
- Liaise with government departments funding bodies and other community organisations in matters relating to AMSANTs concerns and represent AMSANT in a professional manner.
- Ensure an effective communication flow of relevant information between senior management employees and key stakeholders including government and non government forums and members.
- Ensure corporate compliance and timely policy and procedures development.
- Ensure that programs are monitored and promote occupational health and safety and equal employment opportunities.
- Undertake travel intrastate and interstate including to remote communities to meet with stakeholders.
- Other duties as directed.
Selection Criteria (qualifications and attributes)
Essential:
- Ability to communicate well with a wide range of people across the corporation Aboriginal community controlled organisations and government ministers agencies and departments.
- Tertiary qualifications in business health management or relevant area.
- Extensive leadership experience including the ability to lead complex organisations.
- Extensive management experience including the ability to coordinate and deliver on multiple projects with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience in the Aboriginal community controlled organisation sector the health sector and/or with member-based organisations.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including staff and directors.
- Demonstrated stakeholder management experience.
- Ability to think strategically and exercise independent initiative appropriately in a consultative manner to develop work plans and set priorities to achieve results and complete allocated tasks with attention to detail.
- Excellent time management communication and organisational skills.
- Applicants must have an ochre card and a current police check or the ability to obtain these prior to commencement.
- Applicants must be able and willing to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory and possess a C class drivers licence.
Desirable:
- Experience working in an Aboriginal community controlled health service.
- Financial and corporate strategic management experience.
