The Spectrum Utilization Study Intern position resides in the Wireless Technologies department at CableLabs. This department conducts research and development in new and emerging wireless technologies that include 5G 6G Wi-Fi and spectrum-sharing strategies. Our team plays a crucial role in developing industry standards and technical regulatory policy for mobile and Wi-Fi network design deployment service delivery and operations in licensed and unlicensed spectrum.
Why This Internship Is Exciting
The Wireless Technologies group at CableLabs is seeking candidates for a summer intern this role you will be involved in spectrum-sharing studies and interacting with operators regulations and standard bodies. The practical project will likely make a direct impact on industry as well as generate papers and patents with solid contributions. The internship could be extended after the summer depending on mutual interests.
What Youll Do
- Many spectra are insufficiently utilized. This role will assist the team in studying the spectral usage activities based on field measurement data. Especially working on integrating spectrum sensing capability into the future dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) system.
- Based on existing CableLabs smart spectrum usage prediction algorithms investigate continue the research to improve prediction accuracy.
- Assess different levels of spectrum usage prediction requirements (e.g. non-real-time near real-time or real-time) define the corresponding requirements for spectrum sensing (e.g. resolution bandwidth sweep time number of locations etc.)
- Define algorithms to coordinate spectrum usage data from multiple locations to locate the active transmitter(s).
- Investigate and develop different spectrum sensing platforms including software-defined radio (SDR) Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) for spectrum sensing and rotating directional antennas.
- Document and write the necessary papers or technical reports to capture research outputs.
QualificationsWhat Is a Must Have
- Currentlypursuing aPh.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Science Statistics or a similar field with an emphasis on Telecommunications and data analysis.
- Knowledge of wireless communications and RF chain.
- Knowledge of statistics and time series.
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML.
- Hands-on experience with data processing.
- Hands-on experience Matlab Python or C/C.
What Will Set You Apart
- Senior Ph.D. student is preferred.
- Knowledge of regulatory spectrum policy and standard bodies spectrum-related requirements.
- Knowledge and experience of cloud databases.
- Experiences in using AI/ML to solve time series issues.
- Excellent analytical skills and critical thinking skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated and willingness to learn.
Working conditions and physical requirements
This job operates in a professional office environment. Working conditions for office environment typically involveindoor settings often with a mix of standing sitting and walking along with the use of hands and fingers to operate computer workers also need to communicate through various means including telephone email and in-person discussions and they may be subject to moderate noise levels from office equipment.
