Our Regional Delivery team is seeking to appoint a Senior Coastal Hazards Advisor to lead the development and delivery of a nationally integrated Coastal Hazards Management Framework on behalf of the Commonwealth.

This role will drive cross-jurisdictional collaboration to align existing coastal strategies and policies and establish high-level principles to support consistent complementary and resilient approaches to coastal hazard risk management.

The position involves strategic oversight stakeholder engagement across all levels of government and governance to secure funding and guide project execution. Key responsibilities include drafting and refining the framework facilitating consultation and endorsement processes and promoting national alignment on coastal management priorities.

The position requires balancing diverse legislative frameworks integrating evolving climate science into practical policy and managing politically sensitive issues related to land use and adaptation. It operates with a high level of autonomy and represents the department in negotiations and forums to influence national policy and strengthen coastal resilience.

About You

You are a strategic experienced advisor with a strong understanding of coastal management and risk. You excel at building relationships influencing stakeholders and driving collaboration across multiple organisations and jurisdictions.

You can translate complex challenges into practical solutions provide clear guidance on policy and strategy and operate effectively in politically or technically sensitive contexts. Strong communication negotiation critical thinking and project leadership skills are essential along with the ability to integrate evolving climate science into practical policy are critical for success in this role.

Essential requirements include a degree-level qualification in natural resources environmental science engineering marine science or a related discipline along with comprehensive knowledge of coastal processes management policies and relevant legislation.
