Role Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer-in-Training III serves as a key contributor to LTYs mechanical design team supporting the production of high-quality construction documents and ensuring designs align with firm standards client goals and LTYs mission and vision. This role is intended for experienced EITs capable of independently supporting medium to large projects with minimal supervision.
Reports to: Mechanical Team Leader or Mechanical Engineer I II or III
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Technical ExecutionPerform engineering calculations and apply mechanical engineering principles to the design and delivery of HVAC and mechanical systems.
Produce mechanical drawings using AutoCAD and Revit with minimal supervision.
Prepare edit and coordinate mechanical specifications for assigned projects.
Review and respond to RFIs shop drawings submittals addendums and other construction documents.
Conduct site visits and complete field reports to verify design intent and construction compliance.
Design and manage medium to large-scale projects (e.g. middle schools and high schools) from concept through construction.
Participate in and occasionally lead client meetings.
Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project alignment.
Manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
Apply expert knowledge of applicable building codes LTY design standards and client-specific standards.
Ensure mechanical designs meet regulatory requirements and best practices.
Support continuous improvement of internal processes and technical standards.
Support and mentor Mechanical EIT I & II staff designers and interns as assigned.
Transfer technical knowledge and best practices to teammates.
Participate in internal career development and leadership training.
Demonstrate understanding of client missions goals and project drivers.
Translate technical expertise and communication skills into support for business development efforts.
Represent LTYs mission vision and professional values in client-facing interactions.
Required Qualifications
Education & Credentials
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in the State of Texas
Minimum of two attempts at the Texas Professional Engineer (PE) exam
Experience
4 years of experience in a MEP consulting engineering environment
Proven experience designing HVAC systems temperature controls central plants and indoor air quality systems for commercial buildings
Technical Skills
Proficiency with AutoCAD Revit Bluebeam and Microsoft Office
Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical design practices
Solid understanding of applicable building codes
