This vibrant and inclusive Primary and Nursery School in Waltham Forest places emotional wellbeing behaviour support and early intervention at the core of its educational philosophy. The leadership team understands that emotional regulation and positive behaviour are foundational skills that must be developed early. As a result the school has established a strong pastoral framework and works closely with families and external professionals. Due to increasing levels of behavioural and emotional need across EYFS and Key Stage 1 the school is now seeking a compassionate Behaviour Mentor to join their team.
As a Behaviour Mentor you will support pupils who experience difficulties with emotional regulation behaviour management or social interaction. Many pupils may present with SEMH needs ASD ADHD speech and language delays or trauma-related behaviours.
You will work alongside teachers and support staff to deliver targeted interventions consistent behaviour strategies and emotional support. This role requires patience empathy and a strong commitment to early intervention.
Provide 1:1 mentoring for pupils with behavioural needs
Deliver small group interventions focusing on emotional and social skills
Support children within Nursery and classroom environments
Assist pupils during transitions and changes in routine
Support behaviour during playtimes and lunchtimes
Implement behaviour support plans consistently and effectively
Use trauma-informed restorative and play-based approaches
Model emotional regulation and positive behaviour
Work collaboratively with teachers EYFS staff SENCO and pastoral teams
Observe monitor and record pupil progress
Contribute to planning review meetings and assessments
Build strong relationships with parents and carers
Maintain safeguarding and child protection standards
You will be nurturing emotionally intelligent and resilient with a genuine desire to support young children. You will understand that behaviour is communication and be confident responding to challenges in a calm and professional manner.
You should have:
Experience working in a Primary Nursery or EYFS environment
Knowledge of SEND SEMH and early childhood development
A consistent and compassionate behaviour support approach
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience in childcare education psychology youth work or mental health is highly desirable.
