The Access to Information (ATI) Request Support role provides specialized support to the Information and Privacy Office in reviewing confidential records prior to disclosure. The position ensures compliance with provincial and federal access to information legislation by identifying applicable exemptions and exceptions coordinating access request processing and preparing summaries and recommendations for management review. The role works collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external oversight bodies to ensure statutory timelines and privacy obligations are met.
Tasks
- Review confidential records to identify information subject to disclosure exemptions and exceptions under applicable legislation
- Apply knowledge of Albertas Access to Information Act (ATIA) former Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) and Canadas Access to Information Act
- Coordinate day-to-day processing of access to information requests in compliance with statutory timelines and best practices
- Clarify access requests and consult with departmental staff and external stakeholders as required
- Track request milestones deadlines and deliverables to ensure timely responses
- Prepare summaries chronologies and recommendations for management review
- Support and guide sound records management practices within the department
- Liaise with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) during investigations reviews and formal inquiries
- Collaborate with the Information and Privacy Office team to ensure legislative compliance and consistent application of policies
Requirements
- Knowledge and experience working with provincial and federal access to information legislation including:
- Albertas Access to Information Act (ATIA)
- Albertas former Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP)
- Canadas Access to Information Act
- Experience reviewing sensitive and confidential records and applying legislative exemptions
- Strong understanding of access request processing procedures and statutory obligations
- Ability to analyze complex information and prepare clear concise summaries and recommendations
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple requests and track deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for liaising with stakeholders and oversight bodies
- Knowledge of records management principles and best practices
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while handling sensitive information with discretion
