The Nuclear Program Analyst/ Engineer will provide expertise to the Department of Energy/ National Nuclear Security Administration Office of Experimental Sciences and offer subject matter expert (SME) recommendations and analyses on nuclear related projects. The selected candidate should have a strong foundational knowledge of NNSA R&D experimentation contributing to Science Based Stockpile Stewardship. Additional duties may include:
- Support regular OES highlight activities to inform OES contribution to the greater NNSA
- Participate in creating and maintaining high level office documentation such as Implementation plans Strategic Execution Framework ICF Strategy documentation and Stockpile Stewardship Management Plans
- Provide technical support to any Federal Program Manager in any of the following areas:
- Working with the Laboratories to identify and enable resolution of key gaps in physics understanding.
- Providing strategic information to justify cost scope and schedule for any future experimental capability investments.
- Advising the FPM on innovative target designs diagnostics drivers and other specialized technologies simulation capabilities and analytical tools to advance physics understanding in support of stockpile stewardship.
- Addressing key gaps and uncertainties in fundamental physics understanding of fusion target performance.
- Promoting cross-laboratory collaboration and external engagement to improve program efficiencies.
- Conduct Program Reviews and provide reports to leadership as requested.
- Additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Five to seven (5-7) years experience working with NNSA science and nuclear science related projects.
- Must have relevant advanced degree (nuclear chemistry of high explosives or related relevant materials material science physics etc.)
- Highly effective communication skills (written and oral) effective work in fluid fast-paced environment essential teamwork skills detail-oriented.
- Must have extensive experience working in current standard computer applications such as Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint Teams and SharePoint.
- Must have experience performing work in a virtual / telework environment
- Must be able to perform data analysis in support of complex scientific reports and excel at communicating this analysis to stakeholders who do not have a technical background both via presentation and in written reports.
- Must have an active DOD Top Secret or DOE Q security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD Degree in one of the technical fields
- Ten plus (10) years experience working with NNSA science and nuclear related projects.
- Experience working with NNSA science and nuclear related projects in at least one of the areas below:
- Experience with the NNSA complex ICF experimental facilities science-based stockpile stewardship
- Experience with HED and Ignition Science for Stockpile Applications
- Experience ICF Diagnostics and Instrumentation
- Experience with ICF facility operations
- Direct experience with the Office of Experimental Sciences (OES)
LOCATION:This is an on-site position in Washington DC.
