With a staff of over 4000 people from 63 different countries it provides both acute and tertiary care to an increasing population of circa 800000 people and is a provider of local regional and national specialties. It is also a National Urology Centre the second largest provider of dialysis services in the country Pelvic and Acetabulum National Centre and a designated Trauma Unit.
The Hospital is part of the newly established HSE Dublin & Midlands Region which serves a population of over 1.2 million across seven counties and operates under the governance of an independent Board of Directors who give their time on a voluntary basis. TUH is also supported by the Adelaide Health Foundation the Meath Foundation and Tallaght University Hospital Foundation.

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization with strong influencing skills
- Proven service delivery background strong commercial acumen
- Practical experience of use of IT systems / packages
- Fluent command and understanding of the English language to include spoken and written word.
Desirable:- Working knowledge of SAP financials
- 3 years experience in a fast-paced Health organization
Key Duties & Responsibilities:GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY- Responsible and accountable for the accounting accuracy and full and complete reconciliation of a selection of the following balance sheet accounting profiles i.e. current asset (including bank reconciliation and liquidity management) current liability and capital/fixed asset accounting.
- The post holder will be required to keep abreast of relevant regulations/legislation/taxation and accounting standards as applicable to one or more of the following assigned Financial Accounting Divisions i.e. payroll accounts payable or accounts addition the post holder will be required to continually monitor the relevant assigned division and provide assurance to senior management of compliance or otherwise with relevant regulations/legislation/taxation and accounting standards.
- To assist in the production of monthly and annual financial statements to an agreed timetable.
- To assist in making all relevant information and explanations available to the hospitals external auditors and to assist in taking appropriate action in relation to relevant issues raised in the Audit Report and/or Management Letter.
- Be the finance support on Capital Committee projects.
- To support and contribute to the development of enhanced financial systems.
- To assist in the contribution to the development of common accounting standards and procedures etc. as may be appropriate within the healthcare sector.
- To oversee the planning and organising of the divisions workload in order to maintain a high level of effectiveness.
- To ensure that the financial accounting systems support the development of the hospital management systems; to work closely with Management Accounting in this regard.
- To assist in the maintenance of the financial controls and procedures documentation
- To assist in ensuring that all financial and accounting policies are applied consistently on an ongoing basis.
- To assist in ensuring that appropriate systems of internal control are in place and operational such that appropriate assurances can be given to the Board in this regard.
- Overseeing the effective management of the hospitals cash resources; to be familiar with developments in Treasury Management.
- To keep informed and up to date on relevant developments in relation to accounting and related IT matters and to promote/implement improvements as appropriate.
- To assist the Financial Accountant Management Accountant and Director of Finance in the discharge of his/her duties and to undertake special assignments and/or other duties as may be agreed.
- The Post Holder will demonstrate excellent analytical and conceptual thinking capability to organise and interpret financial information and challenge business decisions against strategic plan objectives.
- The ability to manage and motivate staff and work successfully within a team with a focus on quality of work speed of execution and results is vital to success in this role.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS- The post holder will report to the Senior Financial Accountant.
- The post holder will be required to provide cross cover for other personnel within the Finance Department and undertake a full range of duties to include general administration.
- The post holder will communicate when required with external bodies i.e. C&AG HSE DOHC SDU and other external agencies etc. and communicate internally with all other divisions within the Finance Department.
Reward & Recognition- Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales grade code 0582
- The appointment is fulltime temporary and pensionable.
- The annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year
- Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement
