Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States Europe Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Paralegals to support the International Trade practice working under thesupervision of assigned attorneys and Practice Management.

The Paralegal roles will reside in the Washington DC office with hybrid work capabilities and are assigned to work primarily on specific cases/transactions provide general assistance to a project team of attorneys and/or to support attorneys whose practice involves specific areas of law. Paralegals may also monitor legal developments and compliance procedures in their area of expertise. In addition Paralegals may be asked to provide general supervision of Project Assistants and other clerical staff. Paralegals are expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firms clients attorneys advisors and staff while maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.

We request that Paralegals can commit to working at the firm for a minimum of 2 years. Strong preference for candidates with Spanish language skills.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Conduct statutory regulatory or factual research with respect to client matters. Such research might include investigation of federal or state laws and regulations relevant markets corporate participants and industry standards and practices.
  • Participate in due diligence privilege and other reviews of client records and files.
  • Assist with organization of client materials and attorney work product including use of databases imaging systems and other computer-based technology.
  • Maintain pleadings files and other case or project records; circulate materials to project team as needed. Maintain chronological records of project activity.
  • Arrange filings mailings and service list deliveries with appropriate courts government agencies and other parties.
  • Under the supervision of an attorney draft edit cite-check conform and otherwise assist in the preparation of legal documents.
  • Prepare binders of completed transactions.
  • Obtain services from outside contractors including court reporters research services exhibit preparation services filing services and printers. Process billing and disbursement paperwork in connection with those services.
  • Act as liaison for the project team with support departments and other offices of the firm anticipating and assuming responsibility for special staffing needs such as clerical assistance with flexibility for OT required.
  • Travel as required by the Practice and/or client.
  • As requested by Practice Management and assigned attorneys coordinate work of other paralegals and/or project assistants or clerical team members.

Qualifications (Experience Knowledge Skills & Abilities):

  • BA/BS degree required
  • Substantive knowledge of and familiarity with specific areas of law as required.
  • Spanish language skills preferred
  • Strong research analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and Zoom for communication and collaboration.
  • Adobe Acrobat (Professional) for document review and editing.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software and firm-specific applications quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail in formatting data management and electronic filing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to convey detailed information and data.
  • Aptitude and willingness to work with complex procedures.
  • Demonstrated initiative and motivation including willingness to ask for clarification or assistance to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to organize self and others.
  • Ability to research comprehend and distill complex regulatory and corporate information with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner.
  • Proactive task anticipation with a focus on supporting attorney needs and resolving issues independently.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability taking responsibility for assigned projects managing all details and ensuring thorough and accurate execution.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Willingness to assume new tasks andresponsibilities.
  • Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with users peers office and firm management and outside business partners that further teamwork and client service objectives.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on a multitude of projects and work effectively under pressure.

The anticipated base salary for this position in Washington DC is $60000. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including but not limited to relevant education qualifications years of relevant experience certifications or other professional licenses held job-related knowledge and skills business needs and the location from which the work will be performed. Additionally salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package which may also include a full range of health and other insurance benefits financial and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility) a discretionary bonus and various paid time off benefits.
