Job Summary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must hold a valid Michigan Teachers Certificate with an Early Childhood Special Education (ZS (or formerly ZA)-B-K) or Early Childhood General and Special Education endorsement.
  2. Must meet qualification standards under MARSE R 340.1795 for early childhood special education teachers.
  3. Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s) certificate(s) approval(s) etc. and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said document(s).
  4. Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  5. CPR/AED and First Aid Certified
  6. Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
  7. Must have regular and reliable job attendance performance and the physical ability to do the job.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrate deep knowledge and understanding of child development and the impact of disabilities on infants and toddlers (birth to age 3).
  2. Collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) that identify functional outcomes based on family priorities.
  3. Implement strategies through a Primary Service Provider (PSP) model serving as a resource to parents to enhance their capacity to support their childs development.
  4. Serve as a resource to parents and caregivers providing information and/or contacts including community activities and assistance/knowledge specific to their childs needs in the area of special education eligibility.
  5. Provide services within the childs natural environment (e.g. home or community settings) to the maximum extend appropriate.
  6. Participate as a member of a Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) to conduct and facilitate timely and comprehensive evaluations across all developmental domains.
  7. Serve as service coordinator to maintain appropriate records as required by state federal and/or ISD policies and regulations.
  8. Work cooperatively with ancillary staff office staff administration community service agencies and providers in all nine districts of St. Joseph County.
  9. Establish positive relationships including all staff agencies and family communicating regularly regarding support and progress.
  10. Work with all nine districts to facilitate timely transitions from Early On into Early Childhood.
  11. Actively participate in ongoing professional development focused on evidence-based practices for infant and toddler intervention including the implementation of family-centered strategies and the latest research in early childhood neurodevelopment.
  12. Utilize child and family outcome data to refine instructional techniques and improve the effectiveness of early intervention services.
  13. Maintain child/family confidentiality and supervise assigned student teachers.
  14. Complete Medicaid and service encounter logs in a timely manner.
  15. Use universal precautions at all times for personal health and safety.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the St. Joseph County ISD Administrators.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS: Early Childhood/K-12 Special Education Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary for this position is based on the IEA Master Agreement. Services must be provided year round with a gap in scheduled service no longer than two weeks in length.
