BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency fighting hunger. WFP reaches more than 100 million people every day - delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with smallholder farmers communities and governments to improve nutrition and build resilience.
The WFP Innovation Accelerator was named by Fast Company as Most Innovative Non-Profit Organization 2021 for its work in identifying nurturing and scaling disruptive start-ups and innovations to end global hunger. Based in Munich Germany the Innovation Accelerator provides WFP employees entrepreneurs and start-ups with funding hands-on support and access to WFPs global operations. Through the Innovation Accelerator WFP is leveraging unprecedented advances in digital innovation - such as mobile technology artificial intelligence and blockchain - and new business models to transform the way it serves vulnerable communities across the world.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Finance Operations Consultant reporting to the Head of Strategic Finance of the WFP Innovation Accelerator is expected to:
Support the WFP Innovation Accelerator grant process for funding of external innovation projects/entities (such as start-ups) and ensure that all processes are fully defined and implemented including:Support the adoption of the new grant process (including creation of workflows documentation written guidance etc).
Support the design completion and tracking of all needed grant provision internal financial and operational processes (including forms submission on digital platforms reporting file organization meeting setup and minutes).
Support the completion of financial and operational due diligence as per the grant process defined. Support creating and maintaining relevant databases compliant to WFP standards and the relevant directives including all approved Innovation Projects and their applicable documents. Work in close collaboration with internal counterparts to align operational process and financial activities. Retrieve format and validate forms/information obtained from various information systems and bring any discrepancy or inaccuracy to the attention of the supervisor and follow up corrective actions. Provide guidance to other colleagues on the processes linked to the grant process.
Plan and implement financial reporting ensuring outcomes of projects are in accordance with corporate governance requirements ensuring accuracy deadlines and accounting processes are complied with:
Collate / analyze data and insure the preparation of accurate and timely reporting
Record financial entries in WINGS such as through journal vouchers (JVs);
Design implement and monitor standard processes linked to monthly quarterly and yearly finance reporting activities (including internal financial reporting VAT reconciliation monthly bank reconciliation)
Deliver accurate financial reporting in accordance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) ensuring accuracy deadlines and compliance with accounting processes and corporate governance requirements.
Support the overall Finance operations:
Provide analysis & content preparation (data on projects PowerPoint presentations briefs etc.) for corporate priority topics and management meetings.
Participate and carry out discussions with colleagues in other divisions or external stakeholders on topics related to innovation.
Support other core processes of the Innovation Accelerator (e.g. innovation sourcing; innovation bootcamps; sprint programme; thought leadership; scale-up enablement; innovation services; knowledge management) as required.
Support the Head of the Innovation Accelerator and the Director of Innovation and Knowledge Management with any other activities as required.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Bachelors degree masters degree a plus.
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in general financial and/or administrative work. Corporate knowledge of United Nations or WFP financial operations accounting budget procurement and operational processes is preferable.
