Description of the Position

The Director Data Science & Engineering will lead the next wave of SickKids Foundations datatransformationlaunching the organizations first cloud-based analytics platform and buildinga curated 360 view of the customer through high-quality data marts and trusted datasets. Thisleader owns both day-to-day delivery and the delivery of strategic initiatives within BusinessIntelligence & Analytics domain such as the data platform data quality frameworks datamodel and standardized business terminology.

Reporting to the Vice President Business Intelligence & Analytics the Director will overseeanalytics architecture data science and engineeringpushing innovation and ensuring ourdata predictive models and platforms translate into insights that accelerate fundraising andmarketing innovation and deepen our donor engagement.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can set direction elevate technicalstandards and deliver against ambitious priorities.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead the development and governance of SickKids Foundations enterprise dataplatform and analytical infrastructure including ETL layer.
  • Build and maintain curated DataMarts that deliver trusted governed and accessibledata for analytics and reporting.
  • Oversee the integration of 3rd-party and external data to enrich donor insights andenable campaign personalization.
  • Develop and productionize predictive models to support fundraising (one-to-one) mass marketing and improving the donor experience.
  • Establish frameworks for model governance metadata and data library management ensuring transparency and consistency across analytics functions.
  • Manage and enhance data pipelines and automation in an environment like Azure Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Implement data quality framework and best practices for data monitoring
  • Work with Business Partners CRM & Digital Teams to implement a data collection strategy that enables delivery of the Data and Analytics Strategy roadmap
  • Partner closely and advise on data governance and literacy best practices
  • Be a trusted technical advisor to other peers.
  • Lead and mentor a team of technical professionals fostering innovation inclusion and excellence

Qualifications

While we know that for any job posting no one candidate will possess the qualifications being sought in equal measure below is an outline of the qualifications we believe are important for a candidate to bring to the position or for the successful candidate to develop while in the role:

  • University degree in Engineering Computer Science Statistics or Mathematics (Masterspreferred)
  • 10 years combined experience in data science and engineering with 3 years inleadership or management roles.
  • Proven experience building and scaling data platforms pipelines and ML solutions inproduction.
  • Prior work engineering in large-scale data environments (Azure)
  • Understanding of data modeling metadata management and data quality frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of statistical modeling machine learning algorithms andMLOps principles.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing a PowerBI reportingenvironment building dashboards and BI reports and models
  • Expertise in data architecture ETL/ELT and cloud data warehouses (e.g. SnowflakeBigQuery Redshift).
  • Proficiency in SQL Python and distributed data systems (Spark Kafka Databricks etc.).
  • Familiarity with model lifecycle management feature stores and model monitoring.
  • Experience developing data products and self-service analytics ecosystems
  • Experience with data lineage cataloging and access control systems.
  • Skilled at developing high-performing teams mentoring technical leaders and fosteringcollaboration between analytics engineering and business units.
  • Able to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for executives andnon-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable leading data modernization initiatives and shifting organizations toward a data-driven culture.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or charity organization is a strong asset.
  • Inclusive collaborative leader who fosters curiosity innovation and accountability; aligned with SickKids Foundations values of collaboration inclusion integrity innovation and excellence.
  • Ability to leverage GenAI tools (Microsoft Copilot ChatGPT AzureAI Agents RAG etc.) to enhance productivity.

Total Compensation Package

Expected Hiring Salary Range: is $140853 $165958; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $190853. To ensure fair and equitable pay at SickKids Foundation placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience skills and qualifications relevant to the Director Data Science and Engineering role.

Position Status: Permanent Full-Time

Hours: Hybrid work model: minimum two days per week in-office (Tuesday and Wednesday).
