Required Degree:A PhD in marriage and family therapy family studies human development developmental psychology or related discipline.
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience:Those with established academic or professional careers are encouraged to apply as well as outstanding new PhDs (or ABDs who will complete their degrees by the start date). Demonstrated teaching ability as well as achievement in the field are required.
Duties/Expectations: The School of Family Life is seeking a talented clinician/teacher to fill one professional faculty position in our Marriage and Family Therapy program. Rank is determined commensurate with experience. This position will play a central role in the preparation of future clinicians and undergraduate students. This faculty member will provide rigorous instruction mentorship and supervision in core graduate clinical courses in the Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) programs (masters and doctoral) as well as in core undergraduate School of Family Life (SFL) courses that prepare students for graduation and postgraduate opportunities. This position will focus primarily on teaching with some additional professional service and citizenship responsibilities such as attending conferences collaborating with colleagues providing service and leadership activities serving on committees and participating in faculty meetings and departmental processes. While traditional scholarship is not required for this professional teaching appointment continued professional growth leadership and contribution to the field are expected as this faculty member will guide MFT students in professional and personal growth through advising and career mentoring that promotes professional identity and commitment to MFT ethics and professional standards.
This position is expected to be filled by a faculty member on the CFS-track but may be filled with a visitor.
Description of the School of Family Life: () The School of Family Life (SFL) in the College of Family Home and Social Sciences is one of the largest and most dynamic programs of its kind. SFL offers two undergraduate majors: Family Life with emphases in Human Development and Family Studies and Family and Consumer Sciences Education. The school has more than 40 full-time faculty members and over 1500 undergraduate majors and minors. SFL also offers an MS degree in Marriage Family and Human Development and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy. There are approximately 60 students in the MS or Ph.D. programs in SFL. Brigham Young University is one of the largest private universities in the U.S. and is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The university has approximately 33000 students and 1300 faculty. It is located at the foot of the Wasatch Mountain range in Provo Utah a community of approximately 100000.
