PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Language Immersion Coordinator is a Texas-certified educator who is actively involved at the campus level in the design and delivery of effective appropriate services to students identified as Limited English Proficient.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications
- Bachelors degree in education (Masters in Reading Literacy or Curriculum and Instruction is preferred).
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with ESL.
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep understanding of TEKS intervention models and assessment tools.
- Strong communication collaboration and leadership skills.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching experience with a strong background in literacy instruction.
- Proven experience in coaching teachers and leading professional development.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Collaborates with the Curriculum Coordinator Dean of Academics and Instruction Principals and DOE to maintain compliance with all federal state and local standards.
- Coordinates and/or conducts appropriate testing evaluation and identification of students who qualify for ESL services.
- Schedules and conducts LPAC meetings as needed.
- Maintains current confidential accurate and compliant student records including becoming intimately familiar with student records and actively monitoring progress and deadlines in order to ensure compliance with district state and federal guidelines.
- Acts as a liaison with the classroom teacher(s) for the purpose of ensuring adequate ESL instruction.
- Assists in developing coordinating and reviewing district ESL policies and procedures.
- Maintains and communicates current knowledge of federal state and local requirements relevant to ESL programs.
- Provides thorough and timely reports data and information as requested.
- Assists in providing training to teachers in compliance and best practices in ESL strategies.
- Collaborates with the Curriculum Coordinator and Dean of Academics and Instruction to develop coherent appropriate curricula for ESL students.
- Participates in planning implementation and evaluation of campus standardized testing program.
- Works with newcomer students or helps coordinate newcomer services for students new to the country.
- Serves as the District Testing Coordinator and under the supervision of the DOE will facilitate valid and reliable state assessment procedures and ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
- Performs any and all other duties as assigned by the Dean of Academics and Instruction and Director of Education.
Dual Language Program Leadership & Compliance
- Provides district-level leadership for Dual Language/Language Immersion programs to ensure alignment with TEA Dual Language Program Models (One-Way and Two-Way).
- Ensures compliance with state federal and local requirements related to Dual Language programs including ESSA and TEA bilingual education guidelines.
- Collaborates with the Director of Academics Curriculum Coordinator and campus administrators to monitor program fidelity and effectiveness.
Curriculum Instruction & Program Design
- Supports the development implementation and monitoring of Dual Language curriculum aligned to TEKS in both program languages.
- Collaborates with curriculum teams to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of instruction across grade levels in Dual Language classrooms.
- Supports the use of research-based instructional strategies that promote biliteracy bilingualism and high academic achievement.
- Assists campuses in implementing appropriate language allocation plans and instructional models.
Assessment Data & Monitoring
- Coordinates assessment practices for Dual Language students including progress monitoring in both languages.
- Analyzes student performance data to inform instructional decisions program improvements and professional learning needs.
- Supports campuses with TELPAS STAAR and other required assessments as they relate to Dual Language learners.
Teacher Support & Professional Learning
- Provides coaching modeling and feedback to Dual Language teachers to strengthen instructional practices.
- Designs and facilitates professional development focused on bilingual instruction biliteracy development sheltered instruction and culturally responsive practices.
- Supports recruitment onboarding and retention of bilingual and Dual Language educators in collaboration with HR and campus leadership.
Family & Community Engagement
- Serves as a resource for parents and families regarding Dual Language program goals benefits and expectations.
- Supports campuses in communicating effectively with families of Dual Language students in their home language when appropriate.
- Participates in parent meetings informational sessions and community outreach related to bilingual and immersion programming.
Program Evaluation & Growth
- Assists in evaluating the effectiveness of Dual Language programs and makes recommendations for improvement and expansion.
- Supports campuses in continuous improvement efforts related to bilingual and immersion education.
