- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent or higher supplemented by some courses in Civil or Materials Technology from a recognized technical institute
- Knowledge of construction materials testing laboratory equipment and procedures
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and record data with a high level of accuracy
- Ability to make decisions and perform work independently as well as with a team in a field environment
- Ability to perform the assigned tasks such as repetitive bending and lifting up to 50 lbs (equipment samples etc) in various weather environmental traffic and construction conditions
- Basic computer skills including ability to use Google Workspace
- Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring is a requirement for this position

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position

- A minimum of 1 year driving experience holding at least a Class 5 drivers license in any province/country (including GDLs or equivalents)
- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator and compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring
Work Environment:
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

- Perform inspections of asphalt and concrete plants that are producing materials for use on City of Edmonton construction projects
- Perform field coring on asphalt mixes for thickness and compaction determination
- Complete preventative maintenance and ensure all equipment is properly maintained to ensure it is in good and safe working order
- Operate field and laboratory test equipment
- Record test results and prepare standard test reports
- Perform all duties in accordance with provincial and municipal Occupational Health & Safety regulations
- Perform other related duties as required
