About the role Mō te tūranga:
As the Clinical Director of Veterinary Pathology you will lead a team of 14 motivated and engaged clinical and anatomical pathologists ensuring the delivery of high-quality veterinary pathology services to veterinarians across New Zealand. Reporting to the National Operations Manager it is envisaged that 60% of the role will be clinical and 40% of the role managerial.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the team of veterinary anatomical and clinical pathologists.
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality veterinary pathology services including diagnoses and reporting.
- Ensure adequate resourcing training and professional development of pathologists.
- Support recruitment career development and succession planning within the pathology team
- Maintain professional and clinical relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Promote and uphold Awanuis reputation as a leader in veterinary pathology services.
- Collaborate with Laboratory Managers to ensure laboratories maintain accreditation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Identify risks and escalate issues to senior management as required
- Monitor staff performance and competency ensure CPD requirements maintained and maintain accurate documentation.
- Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement of pathology services.

To be successful in this role you need to have:
- Holds a qualification recognised by the Veterinary Council of New Zealand.
- Fellowship or certification with ACVP ECVP or Australasian Veterinary Pathology.
- Sound clinical reasoning
- Understanding of the New Zealand veterinary health sector.
- Understanding of biosecurity and notifiable disease frameworks.
- Awareness of animal welfare ethical considerations and legal responsibilities.
- Strong leadership experience including managing a team of professional staff.
- Skilled in teaching mentoring and supporting the development of staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- At least 5 years experience in veterinary diagnostic pathology post-training.
