Position Summary:

The WLJS-FM Program director plans manages and supervises the content and broadcasting of WLJS-FM JSUs student-run radio station across all its platforms which may include terrestrial broadcasting digital streaming audio podcasts the web social media and other forms of media. Specifically the program director is responsible for developing informational and entertainment programming that relies on speech and conversation to ensure WLJS provides programs that are of value to JSU students and the broader university community.

As a member of the WLJS student staff the program director works closely with the other student staff members and with the director of student media. The program director must be or become familiar with the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics and use the code as a guide. The program director also must be or become familiar with FCC requirements pertaining to WLJSs broadcast license and help ensure compliance with those requirements from the student staff.

Positions may be filled based on individual applicants skills qualifications and departmental needs.

Adheres to all department and University policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Plans manages and supervises the content and broadcasting of WLJS-FM.
Maintains confidentiality of information.
Helps recruit student staff and volunteer contributors for on-air online and social media content.
Participates in regular staff meetings to plan WLJSs programming.
Helps arrange and participates in training for student staff volunteers and others involved in programming and digital content.
Meets regularly with the director of student media to discuss WLJSs programming and broadcasting.
Represents WLJS at public events and professional meetings on campus and off campus.
Meets regularly with university administrators students faculty athletic and community groups to discuss and assess the effectiveness of WLJSs programming.
Monitors digital media analytics to gauge WLJSs effectiveness in reaching its audience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester. (Requirements for international students below. *)
If not a first-time student the applicant must have a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
Selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or printout of enrollment/GPA from MyJaxState.
Must maintain a professional attitude and appearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

A major in communication with a concentration in broadcasting or digital media production.
Successful completion of COM 302 with a C or higher grade.
Prior experience with WLJS as a volunteer or in a media workshop course.
