Position Overview The Arizona Attorney Generals Office is seeking two detail oriented and experienced Paralegal Investigators to support civil litigation attorneys. This position is on site in Phoenix and requires strong legal research abilities excellent organizational skills and experience preparing legal documents and managing complex case files.
Key Responsibilities - Conduct legal research; assist attorneys in preparing cases for trial.
- Prepare memoranda disclosure statements pleadings motions appellate briefs and related legal documents.
- Gather organize and manage files exhibits and supporting documents.
- Assist with discovery responses; create and maintain indexes or document databases.
- Calendar and docket hearings depositions court appearances meetings and critical deadlines in Legal Files and Outlook.
- Review outgoing documents for grammar accuracy completeness and compliance with section formatting standards.
- Review and distribute incoming correspondence according to office procedures.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation including trial notebooks witness/exhibit lists and jury instructions.
- Conduct legal research and citation verification.
- Mentor and support legal support staff; help train new team members.
- Maintain case file rooms and general office organization.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge & Abilities Knowledge of:
- Legal concepts terminology principles and procedures.
- Legal research methods statutes codes and case law resources.
- Administrative state and federal court filing procedures.
- Legal writing formats for briefs reports and motions.
- Functions and jurisdictions of local state and federal courts.
- Discovery procedures and related time constraints.
- Effective file management and trial preparation techniques.
Skills in:
- Gathering and organizing information for discovery/disclosure.
- Writing and verbal communication.
- Handling confidential matters.
- Managing litigation files.
- Interpreting statutes court decisions and legal documents.
- Proofreading for accuracy and detail.
- Interpersonal communication and teamwork.
Ability to:
- Manage a high volume of work and competing deadlines.
- Prioritize workload for timely filings and organized case management.
- Respond professionally with tact and diplomacy.
- Review case files and understand legal theories.
- Assist attorneys in trial preparation and proceedings.
- Analyze issues articulate legal arguments and assess evidence.
- Use computers email internet research electronic filing systems and case/document management software.
- Work effectively with others.
- Travel within Arizona as required (including overnight).
Minimum Requirements - 3 years of paralegal experience (Required)
- Civil litigation experience (Required)
Preferred Qualifications Additional Requirements - Local candidates only: Candidates must list current location on resume.
