The Protein Research Group at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense is seeking a skilled Mass Spectrometrist/Protein Scientist to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting our mass spectrometry and proteomics research in the context of the national PLATO research infrastructure ( research scientist position is an exciting opportunity to contribute to national and international research projects in a highly collaborative and dynamic working environment at SDU. The position is initially for 2 years with possibility for extension. The position is available from April 1 2026.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Contribution to Mass Spectrometry and Protein Research: You will support and contribute to experimental and computational proteomics research in our projects by implementing protocols for peptide and protein characterization by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry and ion mobility spectrometry.
  • Collaboration and Support: Working in the Protein Research Group and within PLATO you will collaborate with Danish and international researchers students and data scientists providing essential education training and support in functional proteomics in ongoing research projects.

Your Academic Profile

  • Qualifications: A MSc or PhD degree (or equivalent experience) in mass spectrometry biophysics or biochemistry protein/proteomics science or a related field.
  • Experience in mass spectrometry protein science and proteomics research: Several years of documented experience in experimental protein science and mass spectrometry preferably including ion mobility spectrometry for characterization of post-translational modifications of proteins.
  • Experience in Mass Spectrometry data analysis: A strong background in mass spectrometry/proteomics data analysis is highly prioritized including also programming skills in R and/or Python.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research projects and collaborate with a diverse team of scientists and students.
  • Communication Skills: Proficiency in the English language (speaking reading writing) and excellent communications and presentation skills.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to take on various tasks and adapt to new challenges.
