Summary

PHC Professional Practice and PHC Ventures the technology and commercialization platform behind Providence Health Care (PHC) are seeking a forward-thinking and experienced Clinical Innovation Nurse Lead to bridge frontline clinical practice with innovation and transformation efforts across PHC. This role plays a pivotal part in translating clinical realities into scalable evidence-informed innovation solutions. The ideal candidate will bring deep clinical knowledge systems thinking and strong communication skills to support collaboration with internal clinical teams and external industry partners.

Reporting to the Director Nursing and Interprofessional Practice PHC and the Director Digital Programs and Advisory Services PHC Ventures and working closely with internal and external stakeholders the Clinical Innovation Nurse Lead is a key enabler for the execution of PHC Ventures projects and programs leading process improvement and supporting other organizational priorities.

The Clinical Innovation Nurse Lead develops and implements standard methodologies to facilitate strategic operational and/or corporate priority improvement projects including project and change management tools such as charters project plans risk management plans and communication plans. Strong collaboration communication stakeholder engagement facilitation and change management skills are critical to success as well as the ability to think and help others to think strategically and critically.

The Clinical Innovation Nurse supports the integration of new and emerging technology into clinical practice by providing clinical practice and educational support to nursing and allied clinicians helping to ensure increased patient safety quality of care clinician experience and achievement of regulatory professional and organizational standards.

Your duties will include:

  • Clinical innovation leadership and strategy: Act as the clinical lead for innovation initiatives across PHC Ventures and Professional Practice ensuring projects reflect frontline realities patient safety priorities and professional standards while advancing organizational and revenue-generating innovation goals.
  • Frontline engagement and insight translation: Work closely with nurses physicians allied health professionals researchers and operational leaders to identify unmet clinical needs and translate real-world insights into actionable use cases design requirements and implementation plans for new technologies and care models.
  • Cross-program integration and clinical governance: Serve as a co-embedded clinical innovation resource within PHCs clinical governance structures building strong relationships with Clinical Program Directors and ensuring innovation initiatives are supported by appropriate policies guidelines and regulatory professional and organizational standards.
  • Industry collaboration and innovation execution: Act as a key liaison between PHC and external partners leading clinical discovery and pilot initiatives supporting ethical and regulatory alignment and guiding innovations from ideation through pilot evaluation and sustainable integration into clinical practice.

What You Bring

Education Training and Experience

  • A level of education training and experience equivalent to a Masters Degree in Health or Business Administration Leadership Organizational Development or relevant clinical field such as Nursing plus a minimum of seven (7) years recent experience in a complex health care environment in a role that involved project and change management involving complex multi-disciplinary projects working with a broad range of stakeholder groups.
  • Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a practicing RN registrant.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the health care system including the operations and administration of a tertiary level teaching hospital along with general knowledge of current health care issues and trends.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory professional and organization standards in clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization understanding the essence and subtleties of the communication and the intended audience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to support knowledge transfer of complex information to a variety of group with varying clinical backgrounds and technology exposure.
  • Advanced skills in critical thinking planning project management change management and group processes.
  • Provides strategic planning support and change management services by supporting feasibility studies requirements gathering and implementation.
  • Participates in the analysis acceptance criteria definition development testing training implementation and sustainability phases of assigned projects. Carries out post-implementation reviews and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Supports business plan development for projects through the preparation of feasibility studies and/or technical analysis and solution development functional requirements scope and design concepts budgets and implementation planning.
  • Ability to analyze complex multifaceted issues report on findings and make recommendations.
  • Ability to lead and provide oversight to projects and provide guidance and direction to staff involved in the project.
  • Knowledge of project management principles practices methods standards tools and techniques.
  • Ability to make formal presentations to various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan organize set and accomplish objectives and goals in a complex fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring together and lead diverse groups in a collaborative manner.
  • Effective facilitation skills and the ability to motivate and influence leaders.

Your day to day:
1. Clinical Innovation Leadership

  • Act as the clinical lead on innovation initiatives across PHC Ventures ensuring alignment with frontline realities patient care priorities and organizational goals.
  • Champion the evolving role of nurses and other clinicians as co-creators of future healthcare solutions.
  • Provide clinical mentorship and consultation to internal innovation teams supporting the development of high-impact revenue-generating solutions.

2. Frontline Engagement & Insight Translation

  • Collaborate with nurses physicians allied health clinicians researchers and operational leaders to identify pain points unmet needs and opportunities for clinical innovation.
  • Surface real-time insights from frontline care delivery and translate them into actionable use cases requirements and design inputs for solution development and deployment.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging trends in digital health medical technologies and care models to inform innovation priorities.
  • Provide consultation and support on the best way to integrate new technologies currently available into clinical practice to ensure patient safety quality of care clinician experience.
  • Lead the development of clinically relevant resources to facilitate safe and effective adoption of new technologies into practice.

3. Cross-Program Integration & Clinical Governance

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Clinical Program Directors across PHC to ensure buy-in alignment and cross-functional integration.
  • Serve as a co-embedded resource within the Clinical Program Directors oversight structure providing a unified clinically informed innovation highway akin to privacy and security frameworks.
  • Ensure that innovation activities are fully embedded within clinical governance and operational structures.
  • Ensue required supports including polices and guidelines are in place to support clinicians in the use of technology and are able to meet regulatory professional and organizational standards and requirements.

4. Industry & External Collaboration

  • Act as a key liaison between PHC and external partners including health technology companies startups researchers and funders.
  • Lead the user-needs discovery phase with industry collaborators through focus groups 1:1 interviews and site-wide engagement sessions.
  • Bridge external innovation opportunities with internal clinical priorities ensuring strategic alignment and meaningful value creation.

5. Pilot Evaluation & Regulatory Alignment

  • Support and evaluate pilot projects solution implementations and clinical studies offering guidance on clinical feasibility effectiveness and safety.
  • Collaborate with regulatory ethics (REB) privacy and legal teams to ensure compliance patient safety and responsible innovation deployment.

6. Innovation Execution & Facilitation

  • Facilitate the end-to-end execution of industry-led clinical innovation projects guiding them through appropriate governance pathways and integrating them within PHCs clinical environments.
  • Ensure that clinical voices are centered throughout the innovation lifecycle from ideation to implementation and scaling.

7. Performs other related duties as assigned.
