Job Summary
As a Model Shop Technician the incumbent will be responsible for the prototyping of functional and appearance models products and parts. They will work closely with the Design Engineers to ensure product development objectives and timelines are met.
What are the main responsibilities of this position
- Lead the fabrication of prototypes and models on time and in tolerance
- Co-operate and communicate with engineers
- Observe safety rules when using tools and other mechanical equipment
- Maintain Model Shop tools and other equipment
- Perform inspection / testing of work produced.
- Fit and assemble components and machined parts
- Organize the Model shop to optimum workflow and storage and maintain the model shop housekeeping with 6S approach. All inventory and projects should have clearly designated storage locations.
- Maintain work area tools and machinery clean and orderly.
- Assist with the launch of new products as required.
- Assist with the creations of specials and custom solutions as required.
- Troubleshoot upholstery issues as required
- Other duties assigned or required. (some heavy lifting clean up etc.)
What skills and qualifications are preferred
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude
- 3 to 5 years relevant model-making or assembly/upholstery experience preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of reading design sketches and blueprints/drawings
- Manufacturing / design knowledge of relevant processes and materials (upholstery injection molded plastic die castings stamped and formed steel complex assemblies)
- Advanced time management skills with ability to work and perform under minimal supervision
- Prototype model making skills general sketching abilities and other visual communication skills are required.
- Demonstrate an understanding of health and safety legislation and applicable standards.
- Ability to follow general safety rules and apply EHS training knowledge.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
- Computer literate
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to create upholstery patterns and sew commercial upholstery coverings is a definite asset
The expected base salary range for this existing position is $49330 - $61675. Final base salary offers will reflect an assessment of the selected candidates skills demonstrated competencies and adherence to our internal pay equity framework.
