Software Engineer - Amazon Web Services - Help us reinvent the Cloud!

Amazon Elastic File System (EFS) provides fully managed elastic file storage that scales from gigabytes to petabytes without provisioning or management overhead. Customers rely on it for everything from simple web serving to large-scale analytics and ML training pipelines.

Were looking for engineers who want to work on distributed storage systems that serve real workloads at significant scale. Youll tackle challenges in replication consistency and fault tolerance. Youll operate what you build.

What youll work on:
- Distributed systems design: consensus protocols replication strategies failure handling
- Systems-level programming for storage engines and critical data paths
- Operating services at scale: performance tuning debugging production issues capacity planning
- Building tooling and automation that makes a small team effective at running large infrastructure

Tech environment: Java C/C Rust Go and internal AWS systems. Youll work across the stack from low-level optimization to service architecture. Were investing in AI-assisted development for systems engineering and youll help define how we use it from code generation to operational automation.

This role includes on-call responsibilities. We take operational excellence seriously: automated remediation thorough runbooks and a culture of fixing root causes rather than firefighting the same issues repeatedly.

About the team
EFS is built entirely in Boston. Were working on new capabilities that expand how customers use file storage with AWS. The team operates with a customer focus working backward from real problems to build storage infrastructure that customers depend on for their most critical workloads.

- 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2 years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

- 3 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
- Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
