Job Description
The Yoga Instructor is responsible for leading safe effective and engaging yoga classes that support the physical and mental wellness goals of participants. This position requires an individual who demonstrates professionalism accountability and excellent customer service skills. Yoga Instructors work under the general supervision of the Fitness Coordinator and play a key role in delivering high-quality group fitness programming.
Duties/Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead yoga classes in a safe efficient and welcoming manner while accommodating varying fitness levels and abilities.
- Ensure the proper use care and general condition of all group fitness and audio equipment to support safe and effective operations.
- Open secure and maintain storage closets and equipment before and after classes.
- Assist participants with proper alignment modifications and techniques to safely perform poses and movements.
- Provide accurate information and assistance to members guests and staff regarding fitness policies and assigned class.
- Communicate participant feedback concerns or equipment issues to the Fitness Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Serve as a substitute instructor for other fitness classes when qualified and available.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum(expected to have to enter job)
- Commitment to and belief in the organizations shared values.
- Current Yoga Instructor Certification from a nationally accredited organization (required).
- Current CPR certification through (ARC) or (AHA).
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to professionally handle customer concerns and assist with participant needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Previous experience teaching yoga classes.
- First Aid certification
Additional Information
Knowledge of:
- Safe and effective yoga instruction practices and proper use of equipment.
- Basic anatomy exercise physiology kinesiology and injury prevention.
- General principles of health wellness and mindful movement.
Skilled in:
- Effectively leading and engaging large groups of participants.
- Developing and delivering safe structured yoga class formats.
Ability to:
- Instruct participants in safe exercise techniques and pose modifications.
- Learn and follow center policies programs and procedures.
- Communicate clearly and work collaboratively with staff and the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to demonstrate yoga poses and movements for extended periods.
- Ability to stand walk bend reach and transition to and from the floor repeatedly.
- Ability to lift and move yoga equipment (approximately 25 lbs).
- Ability to work in a quiet to moderately active environment with groups of varying sizes.
