About the role
RT Iron Ore Sales and Marketing is responsible for the distribution and placement of shipments of more than 320 million tons per annum of Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) products.
The iron ore market continues to evolve with the competitive landscape becoming both more complex and fragmented. Understanding RTIOs competitive strengths and then using this knowledge to drive superior margin performance through a combination of effective long term product placement and shorter-term tactical placement decisions is critical for continuing success as the iron ore market transitions from being supply constrained to demand constrained.

We are now recruiting for a Senior Manager Strategy & Projects Commercial China to join our team. This position is instrumental in leading the optimisation of our growth in China iron ore business through development and execution of sound commercial and sales strategies.

Reporting to the Head of Commercial China you will be:
Manage iron ore strategic partner and customer accounts as required.
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with the China iron ore market.
Build and maintain customer data for internal reporting customer profiling and segmentation.
Provide on-the-ground perspective to inform the development of iron ore sales & marketing strategies for the Chinese market.
Support the broader commercial team as required to maximise value for Rio Tinto.
Managing key strategic projects on behalf of Head of Commercial China especially those with broad scope requiring coordination across SLT and the wider department.
Advise senior leaders on effectively engaging with customers industry groups and government agencies in China.
Provide general and competitor market intelligence and analysis.
Coordinate and support the development and implementation of Rio Tinto China Strategy.
Coach and develop local staff.
Foster/maintain the highest levels of corporate governance consistent with The Way We Work.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role you will have:
Relevant commercial/business related tertiary qualifications. Engineering background or MBA a plus.
More than 10 years experience in a relevant industry or discipline.
Experience in a matrix organisation and a proven ability to navigate complex organisation effectively.
Proven track record of successfully building and maintaining strong relationships with relevant stakeholders.
Strong cultural sensitivity and a good understanding of both Chinese and Western business cultures.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese.
A commitment to the safety and mental wellbeing of self and others.
Excellent strategic capability and a track record of delivering results in complex environments.

You will be based in our office in Shanghai.
